Unascended

I'm working my way back into my Stargate Atlantis brain for Unascended, reminding myself of things and finding my fannish love for this show. This involves rewatching favorite vids and certain episodes, and also my music playlists that send my brain to the right place. Last night I rewatched SG-1 Lost City part 1, and I plan to cover Lost City ( Read more... )

Never Let Me Go by Florence and the Machine kinda puts me in an Atlantis-y mood. Not sure if it'll make you think of Elizabeth, but regardless, it's a beautiful song, and I think she'd like Florence.

Vienna Teng! OH, Vienna Teng, but especially "Enough to Go By."

"I'm at your back door with the earth of a hundred nations on my skin
You wouldn't recognize me, for the light in my eyes is strange."

I don't know if the vid is still online, since it's been forever since I've been around Atlantis fandom, but one of the better Elizabeth vids I saw was to Superchick's "Stand in the Rain." (Appropriate to Eye/Storm but also very true to Elizabeth.)

I remember that one! Sadly I don't have it downloaded. One of the ones I have downloaded is Welcome Home. That's such a good one too.

"Goodnight New York" on Vienna Teng's latest album feels like an Elizabeth song to me. Also possibly The Wailin' Jennys "Arlington."

Also try Dar Williams' "The Mercy of the Fallen," Martin Page's "Shape the Invisible," the Indigo Girls' "Tether."

I'm thinking in general more in the folk rock direction, the stuff Sam doesn't listen to because it'll make people think she's a lesbian.

And if you want less moody, "Level Up," also off Vienna Teng's latest.

if you are afraid, give more.
if you are alive, give more now.
everybody here has seams and scars.

...

yes, you are only one.
no, it is not enough
but if you lift your eyes, I am your brother.
and this is all we need.
and this is where we start.

Oh yes, Vienna Teng! Others from her that remind me of Elizabeth: Say Uncle, Lullaby for a Stormy Night, The Tower, and Whatever You Want.

Branching out from Vienna Teng, I'd also look at Dar Williams, especially As Cool as I Am or After All.

Carrie Newcomer: One Woman and a Shovel, The Fisher King, Air and Smoke.

Lorenna McKennitt: Dante's Prayer and The Lady of Shallot.

So, basically Elizabeth gets most of my modern folk feels.

I love Lullaby for a Stormy Night. I think my favorite Elizabeth vid is If I Wrote You with the vid by Leirdumona.
