A reader says, "You said that there was a flashback in The Lost to the episode Remnants. You can give us that to chew on while we wait, right? I mean it's a flashback to something that already happened! It can't be spoilery ( Read more... )

It has occurred to me before that this was a hole that needed filling, John having to deal with what his subconscious threw at him in Remnants.

Radek makes an excellent sounding board, doesn't he?

Radek really does. He's a good friend. And I love writing him a lot!

I have always liked Radek, and felt that as a character he was sorely underused, except as a foil for the brilliance that is McKay. :/ I enjoy the way you write him, Jo, with a mind to his experience as a Czech whose country has seen so much sorrow. It adds great depth to him.

You write Radek so well. I've always had a soft spot for him. He appears to be a geeky, nerdy little man on the outside and is often used as a comic relief but there's so much hidden strength and resilience in him, yet he never boasts about it.

John has come a long way since we first saw him in 'Rising'. Even though at that point he's had much to suffer already in his life, he always acts like the cool guy and has that almost playful air about him. I really like how you developed him and gave him depth. It's very believeable for him to become a bitter and be plagued by guilt.

I love Radek so much! He's one of my absolute favorites, and I'm glad you think I write him well. He's a lot stronger than people give him credit for.

John has come a long way. It's been painful. And in The Lost he's going to be severely tested.

I have so much love for Radek. He's by far the SGA character I'd most like to have around in real life. He's awesome without being larger than life, like so many TV characters are.

And he's a good friend to have, too.

I really love Radek. My own dear partner is very much a Radek, quiet and stubborn and brilliant. Awesome, as you say! And yes, a good friend to have.

Fascinating snippet. Even without knowing where this occurs in the book, I sense a feeling of despondency from John. Good to see Radek bringing up his 'survivor's guilt' from Peter's death -something the show glossed over as they were wont to do.
I love that you are bringing Radek out from the background - he has so much to offer and shows here just how sensitive he can be to other's feelings:

"A gift." Sheppard looked out to sea, then glanced back at him, one eyebrow quirking. "And that's what you've got for me?"

"That is the thing I have that I think you will accept," Radek said gently.

Can't wait to read it but can't afford the postage so will have to just be patient until someone in the UK has it. Love that on Amazon Uk it states:

Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.

Back in stock? Really?? They have never had it in stock! LOL!!

Thank you! I love Radek, and there's quite a bit of him in The Lost. After all, with Rodney gone he's going to have to step up to the plate on a lot of things. Melissa was the one who pointed out that Radek had the reaction shot when Peter died, and how intense that expression was.

I have no idea what's up with Amazon UK! As of this morning there's a great big pallet of books on its way to them, coming from having come off the presses on Thursday.

Late to this party, but just having read it, I must say I love this snippet. It's a wonderful scene: a chance to see
John dealing with his pain, and getting some help from an unexpected source. And it's such a pleasure to gain more insight into Radek - as we did in Homecoming as well. That's the beauty of books, isn't it? There's time to treat more characters with care.

Starting The Lost tomorrow - yay!

Thank you! John's clearly a mess at the point of Remnants, and Radek is a good friend to have. He listens, and he has context.

I hope you enjoy The Lost!
