I loved Tron. As you say, it was our generation who really got it, although my dad (who was quite cool, y'know, for a dad) loved it also.
D'you remember the huge numbers of arcade games that came out? The one with the discs that was in a big booth sort of thing?
Tron broke a mould. Even watching it now is awesome.

Short answer? Yes.
Long answer: Being sucked into a video game is something of a trope these days, but TRON was one of the first to do it, and did it the best of all, because it wasn't just a gameworld, it was the system itself (an idea that wouldn't be seen again until the similarly excellent CG-animated series Reboot). As Jim points out, it was the Narnia Effect for the early cyber-generation.
