Seguir virtute e canoscenza is from Canto XXVI, 1. 120, of Dante's Inferno. It means "follow courage and knowledge". It is the final words of Ulysses' speech urging his men to sail on and on in pursuit of knowledge and experience of the world. It is the Motto of the University.
