(Those are X-Men characters. If you didn't know that, you may will be better off scrolling past this entry.)

This relationship is often viewed as a grotesque mishandling of both characters. It pees all over one of the sacred romances in comics. IIRC, it happened entirely because of editorial mandate, and in-text divine intervention is the only ( Read more... )

I don't think Scott will dump Emma. Well, maybe he would, but Jean still wouldn't go back to him. Jean would point out that he'd not only cheated on her, but had ditched Madelyne and his kid on a whim even before that.

I'm not sure about that- she married him after the sorry business with Maddie was all done. On the other hand, she might. One plausible scenario is that he dumps Emma (either straightforwardly or passive-aggressively by hanging out with Jean), Jean rejects him, and Emma has too much pride to take him back.

House of M provides another datum: in the Scarlet Witch's "idealized" world, Scott is married to Emma. She even comments on it once she gets her original memories back- something to the effect of "why are we still together?" Of course, there is no real concept of What Scott Would Do here, because even arguing about his motivations and desires presupposes consistency. Abandoning Maddie was out of character. Speeding through grief and hooking up with Emma again was out of character (but at least had an in-text reason.) So if the creative team that brings Jean back ships Scott/Jean, that's how it will be.
