Oh, that is so totally Lex. Great job. You put so much into so few words, and I loved the idea of Emil being a Lex plant (even though I like Emil, but comics canon made him crazy-evil, so it actually makes sense). I also like the sense of confusion/realization/regret/grief when Lex realized that Clark may actually die (and isn't putting on a show).

I definitely think Lex is up to his eyeballs in Checkmate, even if they don't know he's a player and not a pawn. And I really like Smallville's Emil too but just thought it made sense that he was a Lex plant, perhaps unknowingly.
