Soon enough I’m already at the school gate. Yuto was there waiting for me.
“Ryo-chan!” Yuto said and approach me. “Okaeri.”
“Yuto, arigatou. Tadaima.” I reply back to him. “But I don’t think I’m going to music school later.”
“Why is that Ryo-chan? You’re okay now right?” Yuto and the others never knew what my condition is.
“I just don’t want to see the piano anymore.” I know that Yuto can see that it was a lie but there is a part of me that wants to not see the piano. I’m trying to deprive myself on playing it.
“You’re lying. You love the piano ever since we were little!” I can see that Yuto was trying to figure out what’s happening to me but I don’t want him to know.
“People change Yuto. In my case, I change after that accident.” I stare at my hands for a while.
“Ryo-chan,” I can feel that Yuto wants to comfort me, I look up to him and smiles at him.
“Let’s go or we will be late,” I said and head to the general school building.
Our school has two aims. That is to be good at academics and to be good at arts and music.
At mornings, we have the general subjects such as math, English, science things that a normal school give to students.
As for the afternoon, we have our major subjects. We are divided in two major music and arts.
Those that are from the Arts department are all students who wants to be famous in terms of painting, sculptures, but what I like the most on Arts department is the class for mass and communication.
Yuto love to be in that department but he’s schedule for music school gets in the way all the time. I’ve watch many of his videos and I can see that he can be a great director someday.
Those people who go to Music department at the afternoon focus on their major instruments. They all have personal teachers and a personal room to avail in, but in order for the music students to become close to each other we have minor subjects as well like Music theories, composing, singing and dancing.
Many of the music school graduates become a great musician in Japan but not just in classical music, many also excel and become popular as an idol and composers.
It is hard to get into our school and when you get in it is already a great accomplishment. That is the reason why I don’t want to go back to school, I don’t want to face my classmates and teachers. I’m ashamed now that I can’t play anymore. I’m useless to this school.

We have a free time and the class is very noisy. Some of my classmates interact with me and tried to keep me up from what I've missed while I was away.
I faked a smiled and acted happy in front of them.
"By the way I heard that there's this nurse at the hospital," Shougo asked me. He's one of the music students as well, major in guitar. I don't know how he does it but Shougo always manged to know information like that. I have to be careful or else he might find out about my hands as well. He's really nice though and friendly.
"She just helped out in the hospital," they were waiting for my answer so I gave them one. I did leave the part where she's the daughter of the owner of the hospital. I don't think it's right for me to say that information to anyone. "By the way where did you even heard that?"
"Connections-- Connections," Shougo said. He looks like he's so proud of himself. "By the way I heard another rumor. It's about the director having a child,"
"Eh?!!" almost all of our classmates said. I really don't care about those rumors so I just stayed quiet and head to my desk right away.
"Can't stand the noise?" Yuto ask me.
"Yeah, I just want to be alone or at least have a peaceful break," I smiles to him.
"Shougo! Wait tell us!" I heard Jingi said.
"Treat me to lunch first," honestly they're all being childish.
Yamada Ryosuke-san of Class 1-A please proceed to the Principal’s office now. Thank you.
Some of my classmates stopped from what they were doing.
I can hear some of my classmates whispering. It is the first time I have been called to the Principal’s office. I take a deep breath and stand up.
"Ryosuke are you in trouble?" Shougo stop running for a while and asks me.
"I don't think so. I just came back from the hospital, it's impossible for me to be in trouble right away right?" Shougo nod and starts running again as he saw Jingi closing the gap between them.
"Ah! Stop running Shougo and just tell me!" Jingi complain. He's looks tired running.
“Yuto, take care of the class while I’m gone and put the written activity that we had done at sensei’s desk at the faculty. Okay?” Yuto just nods and gestures for me to go.
It is already near lunch break when the principal called me.
“Yamada-san, the principal is expecting you.” The principal’s secretary guides me to his office. It was a good thing that she was there or else I have to knock on the door myself. I’m still healing and I try not to put force on my hands as possible.
“He’s ready for you.” She said, I bowed to her and go inside the office.
“Good morning Uruhara-sensei.” I bowed. “You called for me?”
“Ah! Yamada-san! Yes, yes I did! Have a sit first.” I sit on the nearest chair I could find. “We need to discuss some things regarding-- well, regarding you’re accident.”
“I guess you already know about my hands then sensei.” Uruhara-sensei offered me tea. “I’m willing to transfer school right away.”
“No, my son. I didn’t call you to force you to transfer schools. You’re a big asset to us.” He sip his tea then he smiles at me.
“Asset? Maybe before, when I can still play the piano but I’m useless now sensei.” I know I’m already useless but saying it out loud kinda hurts.
“It is true that you can’t play the piano anymore. That accident made you different and it’s sad to see that.” He places his tea at his table and look at me straight in the eye. “But that doesn’t mean that you are useless.
You have the best knowledge about the piano, you can even surpass the teachings of other professors here.”
“I don’t know where this conversation is going sir.” I’m confuse on what he wants to say to me.
“In short Yamada-san, I’m offering you other alternatives.” What kind of alternatives could he give me? “I’m
offering you to teach one of the pianist students of the music school while you focus on conducting, singing, composing and dancing.”
“Eh?!!! Wait. Why should I do all those things?” I never even care about conducting, and especially our three minor subjects.
“You never attend you’re minor classes right? So why don’t you try on focusing on that. And you can even train the national piano champion while you’re at it.” National champion? Who is it? Did that person started to attend our school?
I heard a knock on the door.
“Excuse me for intruding.” A female voice said. I turn around I recognize her immediately; she’s the girl that competed to the competition as well.
“Ah! You came! Come seat!” the girl sits beside me. “Yamada-san, meet you’re new student.”
My eyes widen. She’s the winner of the competition?!
“I look forward on working with you, I’m Shida Mirai.” I just stared at her, I just can’t believe she won the competition. When I first met her, even now I never had the feeling of her being a good pianist.
"Seriously you're the winner? Ah! It's not like I'm judging you're talents or so it's just that I didn't feel it the last time we saw each other," I honestly said to her.
"I never expected it either. But I did my best and won and as you're student I will do my best as well. Ganbarimasu~" she said to me.
'Ganbatte!' I remember the girl earlier. Her voice, on how she said that resembles that girl this morning.
"This morning--," I said. She look at me confuse.
"Hmm?" she said. I can't continue what I want to ask her.
"Okay! Shida-san please sit down. we have a lot to talk about," she look at the principal and for a moment I saw her eyes glare for the first time. I'm still not aware though on what's just happening.
"Yoroshiku~" She smiles at me again and sit besides me.
I just nods to her. What exactly is going on here? As of this moment I still don't know but all I know is that I don't want to be a tutor nor to be a student of this school if I am useless.
