As I said, this is short--quite possibly the shortest chapter of the bunch--but it is utterly pivotal. It's the first time, I think, that they just *are* together. No worrying about pretense, no worrying about what is said.

Awww. I'm very sad for Elias (your descriptions of the way he experiences PTSD are quite touching; I think it tells us something about Elias that he's able to articulate even this experience which by all rights could be nearly impossible to talk about), but so relieved (not surprised, but still relieved) that Ruby handled everything so well.

I'm hoping we'll get that exchange from her perspective in the next chapter. She's so tender with him: I'd love to know what's in her head during this encounter.

Indeed. Elias would argue that it's because he's had to talk about it for so long with his therapist; I'd argue that it's because that's who he *is*. And of course it shows just how much he trusts Ruby, and wants to let her in, that he's willing to tell her about it.

I'm hoping we'll get that exchange from her perspective in the next chapter
