I can leave a comment on time and in a sane manner!

Hurrah for dissertations being finished!

I hope Rose has an easier time coming to terms with Elias.

She and Elias become good friends--although not as good as she and Ruby. *g*

So this reciprocated dinner invitation, will it be at Rose's flat?

They were invited to dine at Rose's flat, yes.

Do they ever find out what she really does?

Yes. Ruby already knows, from personal experience, what it is Rose does. But Elias does not. Ruby's not saying 'boo' about it, because she's got sense enough to know it's A Secret; but once Rose comes clean to both Elias and Ruby--and she will, down the line--Ruby'll mention that she'd seen Rose at a TW investigation a year or so before.

Have a great weekend!

oooh. For all her bluntness and bluster, Ruby does know a thing or two about timing.

Hi! Anonymous Again!

Aaaah. I loved the dinner, but i feel really stupid that i've seen the banner loads of times and never noticed how Elias looks like Sir Robert.

I also loved the very first part of the story where it was just Peter and Rose having fun with a crossword in her flat. Aaaaaah

Hello!

Don't feel stupid--the shot of Derek Riddell *is* a bit un-Sir Robert!

I also loved the very first part of the story where it was just Peter and Rose having fun with a crossword in her flat.

*sigh* I can just imagine Peter trotting out all sorts of 50¢ words as they worked on it. mmmmmmmmmm....

I think crossword mornings could be their own ficlet-- plenty of fun potential there...

Love Elias being called out. Also I like Rose referring to his as Peter's partner, as if its now permanent rather than for the one gig...

*grins*

Happy Thursday!

Rose loved going with him for coffee, watching the usually sardonic woman turn to mush over the dark Scotsman.
Does no one else have this reaction to Peter? I'd be quite surprised about that.

She wondered if perhaps she might do well to tell Peter exactly how different he was
A direct comparison? That could backfire too.

His hair was hopeless, standing on end in many different directions;
*enjoys the image*

He turned to her, handing her a coffee;
Aww, I was hoping for some funny antics between him and Gretchen.

Peter did delight in teasing her, seeing if he could distract her whilst they worked on the crossword, or as she was on a phone call with Jake.
Could Jake tell? ;0)

She was surprised at how bereft she felt when he was gone; how empty the flat felt.
My swami sense detects foreshadowing...

she really did need to have a talk with her supervisors at Torchwood to see what her options were for moving to Kendal.
Assuming, of course, Peter didn’t get a job with the Met. Wouldn't it be awful if they both moved and just sort of ( ... )

There are others--but not when Rose is necessarily there, or are by people with whom Rose interacts with on a daily basis.

What other friends have doubled with them?

Mickey and Jake, James and Susan...

So he noticed her reaction?

Most definitely.

I didn't really notice anything especially formal or impersonal so far, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Rose is terrified of not being 'herself' with Elias and Ruby. So she's a bit oversensitive, and thinks that her line about wanting to be called Rose sounds a bit...forced.

“Not always like this then, is he?” Ruby asked conspiratorially.
“No,” she said fondly.
I can just see her being so happy for Peter.

She wanted Peter’s friends to like her, desperately.
Is she afraid of disappointing Peter?

“So, Rose, Peter never did tell us how you two met.”
Peter sighed theatrically. “I told you we met-”
“Shoosh, you. I want to hear Rose tell it. I’m sure her version is far more accurate.”
*snort*

“I knew he was lying!” Ruby said, grinning at Peter.
“I never said he was lying,” Rose replied, feeling the corners of her mouth curve upwards. “But that’s not how we met.”
That's just how he romanced her :0)

“The first time we met, Peter Carlisle was...grumpy. Very grumpy.” She leaned towards Ruby. “I’m fairly certain he’d not been fed or coffee’d,” she said in a stage whisper.
Hee! Is Peter going red yet?

Rose turned to the gentleman in question. “You’re Scottish ( ... )

Is she afraid of disappointing Peter?

Yes. And she's afraid of disappointing his friends, too.

Did you pick him to look like Sir Robert just for this kind of reaction?

Nope. I picked him because I think Derek Riddell is hot--and I'd been dying for an excuse to work him into this, somehow.

Did he not think she'd reference being the owner's daughter? Or does he know more than he's letting on? Is he still thinking of Peter's reactions earlier?

No; No; Yes.

Was she expecting the airhead? Or someone more like Peter?

Ruby wasn't quite sure *what* to expect. She's seen Rose working for TW, from a distance, so she's fairly sure Rose isn't the airhead the papers make her out to be.

So what's Peter thinking now?

"At least I'm not the only one with a twin..."

He, of course, knows that Mickey was a doppelganger for Rickey, and that Jackie and Peter both had twins. So I think by this point he's probably accepted that Rose will run across other folks who look like people she knew in her original universe.

How long will they remain ( ... )

They won't be officially told until after she and Peter start living together
Ah, but will Elias crack it before they tell him?

Ruby wasn't quite sure *what* to expect. She's seen Rose working for TW, from a distance, so she's fairly sure Rose isn't the airhead the papers make her out to be.
I wonder what Elias and Ruby talked about after they left?

I wonder what Elias and Ruby talked about after they left?

Nothing--they went home and shagged.

I kid, but only sort of. I reckon they discussed how Peter is clearly mad for Rose, and she for him. And Elias would probably observe that Rose is not at all what he expected, but he shouldn't be surprised because Peter doesn't suffer fools gladly--and Elias doesn't think even mind-blowing sex would get Peter to break that rule. And Ruby would comment on how Rose seems to be as clever as Peter. And they'd talk about their plans for the following weekend, and what their schedules are like for the week...
