Of course, then Peter never would have met Rose....

Watch out, or people might go requesting that as a ficlet... Rose meeting a much different Peter, one who never had his life go to crap in the first place. I'll warrant he'd have never married Loreen, for one thing. I guess the assumption is that he'd instead be happily married to someone else?

I...I don't know. I mean, absolutely--he'd have married someone, and they'd have been happy. But maybe his wife died, or was killed.

The better question is this: If Peter's childhood had been happy--would he still have found his way to the police services? Or would he have entered an entirely different career?

Possibly Cyberised during the original takeover attempt? :(

Or would he have entered an entirely different career?

So are we takin' double Scottish then? XD Given what his degree work was in, I suspect he'd either be teaching or writing or both. Possibly even at the university level.

Let's see... alternate meeting what don't involve Torchwood... Rose goes back to school to get her A-levels or maybe even a degree and ends up with Peter as one of her instructors?

Or perhaps she has to attend a fundraiser/endowmant at a University; he's one of the professors, and was forced to attend.

Ooh, this could be lethally fun....

As they're about to be introduced drops his glasses, she goes to pick them up for him as he's bending to pick them up at the same time... ;D

SEE! IT IS CRACK!

I need to write your fic, and P_C's...but my mind is just...locked in on this idea. I picture him as a far worldlier John Smith--possibly with less tweed, and a much more sexy accent--and Rose would just be all "!" and he'd be all "?..." because he'd not be on the prowl, because his wife had died of cancer and...and...and...

...because his wife had died of cancer and...and...and...

And even though in the intervening years his friends have tried to set him up with a variety of perfectly nice women, the first one he's been remotely interested in is Rose - and he doesn't even know what to do with himself at that point, especially seeing as she's Rose Tyler.

He looks right into those big brown eyes and he is just done for, which would of course knock him for six...

Random additional thought, depending on how deep you wanted to delve into this: Peter and whomever the event host is trying to talk history or literature with (at) Rose and possibly Mickey and Jake as well... with the expected misfires. Some of the people there are just kinda eye-rolling 'well, what do you expect from a soda-pop heiress?' types, but Peter can see the intelligence behind the façade and is further intrigued...
