Thank you all who have responded. It is nice to know that I am not alone or crazy with my feelings. The good news is that if we follow her around with food she will eat it. I asked Jack to go home at lunch and put food in her face to make sure she doesn't go a full 8 hours without food. He said that she hungrily ate at the tuna that he brought home ( Read more... )

Janet, I'm so sorry it wasn't better news. I wanted to mention that when our kitty was very sick, we had to force-feed him using a syringe of chicken baby food. We also gave him water through the syringe. It isn't very pleasant, but it does work. You would want to ask your vet to show you how, I think.

Thanks for the suggestion. She is now eating on her own, and we are so excited. Now if we could just get her to drink a little.

I am trying to catch up on some posts myself and I did read your previous one, then saw this update, so I'll comment here. I'm very sad for you and your kitty! Even if you tell yourself she's lived a long life, that doesn't make it easier to see her sick. I hope you can get her to drink and eat enough to have her around as long as possible.

Cats don't normally drink alot of water. They get alot of their fluid intake through their wet food. So drinking the tuna juice and stuff helps. Also, like Carol said, if you want to force it down her, you can swaddle her in a towel, just like you would a baby. And put the syringe towards the back on the right or left side (so not to trigger the gag reflex) and squirt it down her throat.

PS: I used to work as a vet assistant, that's why I sound like a know it all. :P

Give her lots of good lovin' and tons of hugs for you. I know how hard this is.

Thanks for the info. I have been worried about her not drinking water which is why we are loading up on the tuna juice. She seems to only want to lick the juice and not eat the tuna. I guess it's okay though. I am trying to avoid forcing food down her throat. It is hard enough getting the pills down her throat. We did find a new trick that worked, though. We just put it in with a piece of tuna. It still has to be forced down her throat but she is so excited about the tuna that she quickly gets over the trauma. Whew!
