Whatever It Takes - Status Update

Mar 26, 2008 20:32

It's been a while since I've updated this story... I think the last time was the beginning of January.  I wanted to post this to let anyone reading it (if anyone still is) that I have NOT given up on this.

I've been suffering a bout of major writer's block, coupled with an extreme case of JDOCD (Johnny Depp Obsession Compulsive Disorder, seriously ( Read more... )

To help with your quest for Raphael, I can give you the name of a textbook.... History of Italian Renaissance Art by Frederick HArtt and David G. Wilkins. Also look for books mainly concerning Italian High Renaissance 16th C. art, you'll find a lot of Raphael, expecially all those Virgin Marys.

Thanks for the info :) I think already have that book. My professor was one of their students so she kinda made it mandatory...that is if I've remembering the book correctly :)

Renaissance is my emphasis for my senior thesis and this semester I'm taking the class on the Big 3: Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo and it's been interesting to say the least. It's more difficult to find scholarly articles about Raphael(and my professor has tried) but all there really is are articles about needing to find the provenance about a certain painting or whatever, not like 'what is the psychological meaning behind his portraits'. There's not even a good monograph book of all his paintings like there is for Leonardo and Michelangelo... Poor Raphie...get's all ignored nowadays...

I'm comparing his female portraiture to the standard of the day by reading Baldassare Castiliogne's (I think that's how it's spelled)The Courtier...and then comparing them to women artists of the Renaissance (such as Sofonisba Anguissola and Lavinia Fontana)...but I' ( ... )

My prof is writing a book about Baldassare Castiliogne. She went on and on and on about that work when we came across it.

I've read parts of it more times than you would think you would in art history... But I know that he was a friend of Raphael's and he wrote about how proper noblewomen and whatnot should act and look like so it inspired Raphael's work, and other portrait artists of the time.

Oh man, my JDOCD is REAAAAALLLY bad right now too. With all these pictures and videos of him filiming in Wisconsin and him dressed up in 30s clothes and that hat *swoon*

I would suggest the Sweeney Todd DVD coming out on April 1st, only a few more days! :D And watch any Johnny Depp movies you've missed or can't remember that well. Or just stare at pictures of him. Or draw him. Or write about him. Or write letters to him HAHA!

Oh, I know! I've been following filming around so much that's it's distracting me from what I need to do. I can't wait for that movie!

I'm already ready to stand in line for the Sweeney DVD :D I've seen just about all of his movies...maybe 3 times since January...some more. Right now, I'm watching Arizona Dream...

3 months...DANG girl! That's about the time when Sweeney Todd came out )) Be careful, you might have an overdose )lolz ) It doesn't help that there are no new House episodes.

I've been watching CSI and some perios drama ))

Good luck on your Raphael paper. Did you write him a BDay card yet?

Yeah...it started with Sweeney... I always fall back into JDOCD whenever a new movie comes out, but I haven't been able to pull myself out of this one. It probably does have to do with the lack of new episodes of House and other shows... But watching Johnny is fun :D

Thanks for the luck :) I haven't gotten around to the BDay card yet... I've briefly worked on it, but then got stuck (my art muse ran away too). I'm going to attempt to work on it this weekend. :)

Have you seen the new Bones promos? They looks so cool! I missed DB so much, I love his comedic timing. Booth's lame jokes and cute faces never get old! )))

I can't wait for Bones to come back either! :D DB and ED really have great chemistry on screen.

I love DB's comedic side. One thing I would absolutely love is to have James Marsters (if he's not in Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse next season) guest star just to have the two of them onscreen together again. They act off of each other wonderfully. Comedic timing at it's best :D

I would also love a crossover with Bones and House (assuming they keep the two shows grouped together, but they do film next door to each other). I bet that would be hilarious...put House and Brennan in the same room together. It couldn't not be funny :) But that's probably not going to happen.
