Holy shit, WORD about reconstruction! America was on a spiral into political and sociological hell for a couple of decades. It was the worst, and when we thought it couldn't get any worse, it did.

And yet, it was the start of an amazing intellectual & theological flowering in Europe and only gradually filtered over here, which is why I spent a lot of time in European history for that era.

Will take you up on your recs.

Being a cultural historian the one thing I rescue from that 1865-1901 period is the growth of mass media, mass marketing, mass merchandising and the monoculture. Other than that it's mostly "here is a list of terrible things people did to other people they didn't quite consider human due to race in the south, the north, and the west! Good times!" But yeah, fin-de-siecle European intellectual history is completely fascinating--their Progressive project, so much better than hours, mostly for the aforementioned reasons!

Okay, I love how you 'talk' about your university. Really gave me a great sense for it that all the grandiose descriptions of history could never have done. You made it personal and special.

Then you blew my mind with the Clint/Coulson. OMG! I melted at Clint's outburst and Phil's surprise was perfect. *sighs happily* (And we won't talk about where my intended-to-be CC fic has meandered off to, okay?)

*hugs*

Your college is just your college, you know? No matter where you went.

Aww, thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed! I'll likely clean it up and post it properly this weekend sometime.
