This will sound stupid, but my most vivid association with R.E.M. is the self-spoof they did for Sesame Street: Furry Happy Monsters (instead of Shiny Happy People) - I adored that song, and knew it WAY better than the original, heh.

well, you know, creaky x-ers. my list would be much like yours, except that i think pageant is my favorite album, all told. my favorite song along with "cuyahoga" is "pretty persuasion," which they DID play, miraculously, when we saw them on the pageant tour (felt forum). i soon moved into a life that did not include much concertgoing so that was the only time, and special. my husband, though, had spent a semester at georgia tech in '82, and seen them more than once then and there.
