obligatory 'I saw HP&DH' post

So the roommate and I saw Deathly Hallows last night. I … don't really like the book, am not in love with the resolution to the story and all of its death-cult blah blah blah. I'm glad she wanted to see it and got me to go, because I wanted to see it but was having trouble making myself see it ( Read more... )

I understand why they cut it, but I would have liked to have seen Dean in this part. And the moments with Harry and Hermione really were very sweet. LOVED the animation bit. I was very please with the whole thing.

Yeah, I definitely missed Dean, though I didn't miss the glimpse of Seamus, and look forward to seeing him in the next film.

I just . . . loved the Harry/Hermione scenes. Pumpkin Pie being my first ship ever in HP fandom, I was so pleased to see such intimacy between them (I don't mean that in the romantic sense, but the kind of intimacy they demonstrated almost transcends romance . . . like the friendship is so precious, it's the foundation of more). I loved the dancing scene; Nick Cave! I loved even Dan and Emma's kiss in the Horcrux scene, because it was visually stunning. I was thrilled that the PPers got to have their moments, finallyThe Christmas scene made me cry ( ... )

Yeah, I don't think I would have cut much. I don't think I would have wanted it to speed up. I mean, this is the part where they wander around and only vaguely know what they're doing.

Ok, so I feel like a bit of a stalker, but I wanted to say that I love how people's ships change their views of movies in some ways, but in some ways don't much at all.

What I'm thinking about is the dance scene. I don't really ship Harry/Hermione, but I loved that scene (as well as the scene in Godric's Hollow), because of how close it showed them, and, exactly how you said, showed how Harry just wants to make Hermione happy. I viewed it as more of a brother and sister, best friend situation , but I loved how thwy were shown together. Also, Ron kinda sucked for part of DH, especially in the books. But his badassery was appreciated in this movie.

Ok, random comment over.

Yeah, I feel like in opposition to many of the movies where Ron comes off worse than in the books (horrible) in this one he came off a bit better. In the books, I love their close friend dynamic; it's just that the way they relate is actually my preferred shipping dynamic so I like shipping them in fanon.

(The whole shipping blah blah sucked because I always wanted to commission that scene in the graveyard in Godric's Hollow, but felt like I couldn't because people would get all mad that I was shippy about it. But I think the foundation of being shippy is liking character dynamic anyway, at least for me.)

aaaaahhhh finally catching up on bits and snatches of LJ after months and months offline, and I wanted to read your DH review because I loooove your reviews of, um, everything-

I'm relieved that they're finally allowing Ron to be the sensible badass he is in the books.

YESYESYES.

Oh, and the animation of the fairy tale was so gorgeous!

Did I read somewhere that that animator has been hired to do another movie? I hope so, because that animation was beyond amazing.

I'm glad you seem to have enjoyed the movie, because I really did too. hope all's well with you!

Thank you! That's a really nice compliment. I hope all's well with you too.

If he hasn't been hired already I'm sure he soon will be as he's getting a ton of press off the movie!
