on big bangs and music

So! My startrekbigbang story matched both a mixer and, as of last night, an artist! Also, there are so many fics I'm looking forward to reading! So my own recent freak out about many things writing-related is slightly mitigated.

Unsurprisingly, however, my rpf_big_bang story hasn't matched with an artist yet, though this is not due to lack of trying by the mods. At ( Read more... )

I still don't have an artist yet. Was 2nd or 3rd choice for 3 artists, although one was a pity vote from my sister. -_- I asked to be removed from the fanmix running since I decided to make my own instead of having to coordinate with an artist and a mixer on top of the two people betaing my story.

I was like, not a choice at all from anyone until I was suddenly chosen. (Also seriously, that rpf is never going to match, though I appreciate the mods trying so hard.)

I can see what you mean by coordination. My story is pretty much beta'd--the final beta is reading it over in total for flow right now and then it will be done--so I can hand it over to the artist and mixer pretty much completed. The rpf story similar, I'm getting that beta back tomorrow and should be able to get it edited and ready to go over the weekend.

Would you ever want to do a mix for someone else's story? I like the reciprocity of it, and that during the matching period I'd feel a little less powerless. I'm on the verge of asking them if I can sign up as a mixer now, but I think they already turned down someone as an artist saying that you had to sign up from the start.

Probably not. I have a hard enough time making mixes for my own stories, which I know, and keeping it with my taste in music that also fits the tone of the fic. I think it would be wicked hard to do that for someone else. But I'm not one of those people that listens to every type of music and knows a ton of bands, so I think that might just be me.

They're letting people decide to mix their own work but not sign up if you didn't before the 1st.

Yeah, I figured. Well, next year!

Meanwhile I'll just absorb that energy working on one for my rpf fic, haha!

My darling, my sympathy is both rueful and unbounded. For me it is the job market, but still.

I feel that it is the hardest part about being an adult! I want to be optimistic, and I'm naturally optimistic, but I'm not great with dealing with disappointment (a lot of self-blame inevitably crawls in of the "you shouldn't have gotten your hopes up" variety) and so I try to think that the worst will inevitably happen.

Clearly, I have not mastered that "expect the worst, hope for the best" philosophy!
