Gates rolls the fettuccini on his fork expertly.

"Still getting a lot of rodent static," comes the gruff response. A quieter man with a pencil-thin mustache that's starting to go gray. The grizzled look of a man who's cut his teeth on many a nasty piece of business that needed to be done.

"I'm tellin' ya, he's got a vendetta. You gotta tell me what you did."

"NOTHING," he blurts, a bit louder than he should. The look he gets from Gates quiets him down immediately.

"Nothing out of the ordinary. I'm taking every damn precaution to be as low-key as possible for now, after that fiasco with the fowl, and he's STILL hounding me like a rabid dog. Has he been telling you guys anything? Any kinda hint about what the hell we mighta done to set him off the deep end?"

Gates shakes his head.

"He ain't talkin' much. Never does, the rat. But word on the street is he don't take too kindly when just any chump up and starts runnin' around in a batsuit, like that Batwoman mess. Maybe he's still pissed about that whole thing."

"No... no. That's not his M.O., you know? He's all about 'fair play' and 'equal justice' and all of that shit. All those little Boy Wonders are still runnin' around, aren't they? Did we off his uncle without even noticing it or something? That's the trouble with that goddamned mask - you don't know whose feathers not to ruffle when you're in the rebuilding phase, you know?"

A few minutes later, Thorne's nose is proven right.

A pair of detectives walk in, and proceed to turn the place over.

More than a little suspicious that the place is usually closed. That the whole restaurant usually makes about one meal a week.

Once they get in the back room, that's where the gold is - at least for them. Phony documents, money laundering of every kind...

"Looks like the tip was legit."

"... Well, I'll be damned..."
