The Edge of Eternity

Jun 12, 2006 07:31

The surreal void where the floating remains of the Rock of Eternity now drift, has become a battlefield. Hordes of nightmarish monsters, called forth by the Dark Lord, wage a fierce battle atop a hill of the bodies of their fallen against the undying servant of dream, Mar’I Grayson, The Nightstar. Nearby, the sword of Ibn al’Xuffasc lies on a rock ( Read more... )

The Champion of Nabu cannot concern himself with the otherworldly creatures. His sole concern must be Mordru, as the two wrestle for the destiny of all creation.

And wrestle he does. The Dark Lord has succumbed to madness and fights with raw Chaos as he continues to loose ground before the heir of Nabu. THe danger is not in his possible victory, but in the untold damage he can do in this unpredictable state with the floodgates of Chaos thrown open and unchecked in his mind.

They are both battered beyond recognition. Energy spills from their split skin. Their eyes are electrical storms, their sweat wildfire.

Reality is breaking down around them, their battle has become so pitched. When two such as they fight, its barely comprehensible to the mortals around them.

But Fate tries to contain the damage, his aura expaniding to restrain the wild energy, the unspeakable beasts. It's all even he can do to hold it all in check.

The amulet around his neck glows brightly now. It wants its prisoner back.

As the two mystical titan's wage war with each other, something unexpected happens.
The body of Darkseid comes crashing into the crouched form of the Dark Lord.

The Atom watches Alan's children in horror. This wasn't supposed to happen. But they don't have time and he's Justice League. And once upon a time, so was Obsidian. Justice Leaguers don't fall apart until the fight's done.

"Todd. Jenny. We need to get the black diamond where it can't do any harm -- there's a stasis field prepared at the Brownstone. Same one they kept the King of All Tears in. Zee, you need to get us back there."

He doesn't say there's still hope. He doesn't say anything unless it's to finish the job.

Picking herself up off the ground she feels nothing but relief that she's still breathing. That dissapates rapidly as she takes in the situation around them...and Todd and Jenny. Oh. My. Gods. Her jaw drops slightly in awe.

Her attention is brought snapping to Atom and she nods. "Portal. Brownstone. Now. Gotcha."

Usually she uses a wall or a door...something solid anyway. None of that here so she has to improvise, focusing on a space closest to them.

"esaelp ,won thgir enotsnworB eht ot rood a nepO!"

She waits for the signature flare of energy then motions for the others. She has to be the last through for the portal will close behind her.

The open portal is like the scent of succulent meat to the hoary forces around them. The glimmer of the Earth realm beyond Zattana's portal; instantly draw the attention of several reptilian insect creatures bearing wicked looking halberds of ice. A large sickly yellow mollusk oozing caustic acid follows them as they make a rush to the opening.

"Oh shit. Ray!!! Make it quick or I'll lose the portal in exchange for fighting off creepies!"

Quick and dirty she thrusts a hand out towards the beasties bearing down on them.

"eriF!"

"My magics and Terrific's gimmicks will only keep this demon at bay for so long," thinks Zard, wathcing Sabaac struggle. Usually he'd cut and run at a time like this, but he doesn't really have that option right now. So instead, he pulls out his wand.

"Let's see where this demon goes when we banish it."

He's going to pay for this eventually. He can feel it.

Zard's magic is strong, but when he seeks to banish Sabbac, a cruel surprise is reveals. Sabbac is the champion of seven demon princes, their power flows through him. Seven Demon Princes together could resist the Wizard's banishment, but this is not the full accounting of Sabbac anymore. When the Dark Lord destroyed the Rock of Eternity, he freed the Seven Deadly Sins and then bound them to the demon champion Zard seeks to dismiss. What the criminal magician faces here is beyond his experience.

Sabbac still feels the banishment however. It infuriates him. The barbed scraping across his essence as the dismissal hits him like a physical attack, stirs primal instincts at the base of his demonic essence and in a snarl of hatred, he springs like a hunting cat at the dark wizard, claws flashing in deadly malice.

And Zard's like a deer in the headlights. Thankfully, Mr. Terrific has it more together, pushing Zard out of Sabaac's reach and planting a flash bomb right in the demon's eyes.

They're just holding their own here, and he knows it. They're going to need some help, and soon.

Given the choice, a Tamaranean will prefer to embrace peace. But few are their equals when it comes to war.

Never anger a Tamaranean. Never anger a Rom. Never anger a Titan.

Do not underestimate the servant of Dream who has been the champion of the Endless.

Her lungs are burning. Her body is scored a thousand times over. And yet the sunlight continues to fuel her starbolts, her anger burns clean, and she will not stop.

Then she sees Ibn's sword, abandoned, and if the demons were not afraid of her before, they will learn to fear her now.

The fiery cat link creatures circle Mar'i, waiting for an opening. Their taught muscles twitch at each move she makes, waiting to spring when a moment of vulnerability might present itself. A number of misshapen winged homunculi dart in and out of her range as the make passes with small scythe like weapons that cut like straight razors. The horde has learned enough to not blindly charge in. The mountain of bodies at Nightstar's feet it testament to that lesson. Instead, the craftier and more deadly creatures of the nightmare army have begun to work in more devious and tactical methods.

She has to spit some of her own blood out of her mouth before she gives them a feral grin. In a gesture borrowed from her father, she raises one hand, beckoning the cat-like creatures closer. "Here, kitty-kitty-kitty," she croons.

The beasts are sentient and Nightstar's taunt find purchase. With deep thunderous roars, three of the hellcats spring at her from different directions as the others move in.

He's heard those words before. He knows what they signify.

"Stand ready, my allies - Mordru has unfettered horrible creatures, imprisoned eons ago - and now they would do battle with us."

He summons energy to himself, forming a magical warding web - the sticky strands of which may.. nay, should.. slow the creatures' onslaught.

The Stranger can feel the fabric of the universe stretch and scream under to mystical weight of the things that seek to press their way into our world. His ward manifests and spreads across the place where the alien creatures seek to burst through. It is like using spider webs to stop a bowling ball. As soon as strands of mystical reinforcement are woven, they strain and snap before the horrible force before them. Some great shape seems to dimly fill the sky from the other side of the barrier. It fills up the entire horizon and as the wanderer seeks to make sense of what it is, a cold sense of realization fills his immortal mind. It is an eye.

This entity, too, he recognizes of old. He flies towards the barrier with a grim determination - conjuring his mightiest wards, one after the other, intent on simply slowing the creature down until the heroes' forces can be brought to bear.

"Turn back! This world, this place - they are no longer yours to defile!"

The air grows hot with the exchange of energies and the very strain of reality all about. Bathed in a hellish green light, the Stranger stand between the oncoming proto-gods and the rest of the Universe.
