The Garden

There were three piles of scored earth, dead vegatation, and rubble neatly piled off of the garden grounds. What work had been done was completed with incredible haste, but it was more than enough to begin a resurrection. A shovel that did not belong on the island had been left on one of the paths. Some time later, Starfire comes for her daily--or twice daily, sometimes thrice daily--visit to the remains of her garden, searching for anything more she can salvage. "X'hal," she whispers at the sight of the plants. She falls to her knees, weeping with joy at the beauty before her.

Slater watches Starfire from a distance, he's unarmed and covered in dirt. He's compelled to go to her, yet he knows that he's trespassed and unwelcome. He turns away from her and heads to the beachline.

She rises to her feet and hovers above the garden, enjoying the new view. No more raw and broken earth. No more dying plants. Life.

He hasn't seen Starfire take flight, so he hasn't taken precautions to not be seen from the air. This was the first good thing he has done in years and it's done Slater's heart....and soul some good. The good feeling that it has given him has made him oblivious to his surrounding as he starts to splash into the water.
