Their power levels sorely reduced, a plan is quickly hatched. The dungeon halls are built in a circular pattern, with several of the passageways leading to Wotan's throne room. There are possibly as many as fifty of Wotan's priests along the way, and if they're armed, not one of the Injustice Society has seen. But then, they're not the most ( Read more... )

The Black Canary nods, smacking her right fist into the palm of her left hand. "Let me at 'em."

"So sayeth all of us," says Shining Knight, his fist balled into his palm. "But fear my blade when you approacheth Wotan, for it is a deadly instrument in the wrong hands."

"Yeah," says Robotman. "And lezzzZZZZZZZzzzzave Nazi for me. I've been wanting a ZZZzzzzZZZZzzzz rematch anyway."

He hopes the exposed wiring doesn't undercut his show of confidence.

"Good," says Fate, and really, he doesn't look inmuch better shape than Robotman. "Two groups -- one goes left, another right, and we meet in the central chamber."

"I'll go right--who's with me?" asks the Black Canary.

"Then let us go," says Fate, holding his head high despite his wounds.

He beckons his group to follow him while the others go off the other direction. At first, the corridors seem deathly quiet, as though there were nothing else living in the depths at all, but soon, a rustling comes from up ahead -- five men in white robes gathered at an altar to Wotan.

Heading right, the Blonde Bombshell quickly finds herself face to face--and what ugly faces they are--with the priests. "Didn't anyone tell you hemlines are going up?" she quips, aiming to take out the knee of the nearest priest. Unfortunately she misjudges her kick and has to correct to avoid overbalancing.

Dr. Mit-Nite moves smoothly behind her, lobbing a black-smoke bomb a ways in front of them to create confusion, and with a swift move, he darts forward into the cloud - where can see perfectly and they cannot.

He proceeds to put as many lights out as he can.

That's a doozie of a gizmo he's got there, thinks the Black Canary.

Confusion reigns, and the priests fall under Mid-Nite's fists.

The commotion has drawn attention, and soon dozens of similarly white-robed priests are converging on the heroes, wielding anything that comes to hand as a weapon.

The Blackhawk's saving her ammo for someone who's worth it. She's no martial artist, but she can get down and dirty with the best of them; and so she does, aiming a left hook at the nearest priest and then grabbing at another's cloak to swing him around into another like a bowling ball.

One of the priests leaps clumsily at her, trying to catch her in a tackle.

The shouts seem to come from everywhere now:

"ALL HAIL WOTAN! OUR LIVES FOR WOTAN!!!"

"If I were y'all, I'd be askin' for a refund," she retorts as she backpedals, flicking her booted foot up to catch the diving man under the chin with a resounding crack.

Gentleman Ghost's directions were as good as his word -- and while he's a thief and a criminal, he's evidently no liar. The dungeon is labrythine, but all always do eventually begin to arc toward a central chamber.

But between this path and there stands one, solid obstacle.

"So. It appears we get one, final dance before you all die."

One of these days I shall bother to learn the appeal of such metaphors.

Shadow-tendrils wrap around the Captain's legs - his powers are weakened so the usual devouring monster doesn't seem an option right now.

"I'll stick with the appeal of seeing him hit the dirt," says the Canary.

The Nazi begins to panic at the tendrils as two things occurr to him straight away -- that the Shade's not entirely affected by the magics muting powers here, and that he's been betrayed. Perhaps he's not as dumb as he looks.

"Shade! He shouts, thrashing madly to escape the tendrils. "What are you doing!?!?"
