Just a few hours now...

This must be the longest day of Selina's life. She's been sitting here in this courtroom for what seems like years. Life goes on, right? This is the greatest example she's ever had of that. She feels she should be somewhere else, waiting for Bruce to come home ( Read more... )

I first met her when I was chasing her across the rooftops, Barbara knows better than to say. "I'm sorry," she says instead. "I'm not sure I understand the context of your first question, counselor. Could you clarify, please?"

"I want to know how you define your relationship with Ms. Kyle. We know from earlier how long you've known her but I want clarification of the type of relationship. Obviously, she's more than your father-in-law's girlfriend." Yeah, he's walking a line but he hasn't managed to be entirely smarmy or leading yet.

"'Type of relationship'?" Barbara looks amused, then exchanges a look with her husband, letting her gaze linger before she answers the attorney's question. "You're right. She's more than my father-in-law's girlfriend. She's an example of rehabilitation. Whatever crimes she may or may not have committed in the past, she has chosen to use her talents in lawful ways now. I was glad to help her negotiate the obstacles of starting her security consulting business."

He holds the look, saying more in a second without words than most could ever hope to say in an hour. Mary's here too; sleeping soundly in his arms. Good media image. Maybe it'll keep the paparazzi off their backs for a while after today.

Selina rolls her eyes faintly at the questioning and writes on one of the tablets on front of her. This guy can't decide if I tried to seduce her, am sleeping with her father-in-law for his money, or am trying to fool everyone into thinking I'm some sort of angel. Probably all three.

The note is slid toward Harvey. Selina's trying not to roll her eyes more than she can help.

Harvey reads the note dutifully, then scribbles a response of his own.

Not relevant. If smear keeps up, there's always the 'takes a criminal to know one' angle.

After a moment, he scribbles more.

Selina puts her hand on Harvey's arm and squeezes thankfully.

"I think she's capable of giving an accurate description of what the defendent did to her, yes," says Barbara.

"Accurate and unbiased?"

Barbara gives the defendant a librarian look. "Counselor, how unbiased would you be towards someone trying to degrade you?"

"We're trying to determine Ms. Kyle's reliability as a witness. Seeing as she's the only one we have, I have to ask that you answer the question." He's just the slightest bit smarmy - not quite enough to get him called on it.
