Stir crazy

Being imprisoned had never sat well with Cheshire. Being trapped within stone walls and by iron bars, being caged for the most part, tended to fill her with both loathing and an almost unconscious fear. Knowing that if her enemies had their say, she would never be released. Visualizing the passing of time from within a single, tiny room-for it wasn ( Read more... )

Troia has been checking in. She wishes she was better about it since a lot depends on Jade not going out of her mind. Still, it's not like there wasn't other things to work out.

She toys with the ring on her finger. That's not going to go over so well either, she suspects, but it's not exactly her life, now is it?

The door opens. and then swiftly closes behind her.

"Morning."

When the door opens behind her, Cheshire turns to face her visitor. Upon seeing Troia, her expression becomes calculating, as though she is judging the distance between the Titan and the door, if she desired to make an attempt at escape.

"I was beginning to wonder if you had forgotten about me," She remarks coolly. "Forced incarceration does tend to make a person rather...suspicious."

Donna sighs and sits. Cheshire will note it's between her and the door.

"Since we became a republic the rules of asylum have changed, and there's been some trouble on the island. That and Ras Al Guhl was killed while in custody. It does make me a bit more careful."

"I did ask Roy to bring Lian by later."

Her exit is blocked...at least momentarily. The evaluating look fades from from Cheshire's face only to be replaced with mildly interest and possibily amusement. The fact that there is trouble in "paradise" is intriguing enough, but the executions of the Demon's Head was something immensely different.

"A shame that you were not more careful when it came to the late Ra's Al Ghul," she responded dryly. "But I am sure your associates saw his demise as something of divine retribution given his 'crimes.'"

Cheshire examines her nails-her real nails, unfortunately-in a gesture of near-boredom. "A good thing I have ni intention to resigning myself to that same fate."

At the mention of Roy and Lian, she forces herself not to look up. The last time her daughter had seen her imprisoned...things had not gone as well as she might have hoped. There was little chance that this time would be any different.

The grapple is at a standstill and she won't change that for the moment. Cheshire knows that this is how she sees the truth.

"We'll either learn to work together, Jade." Her voice is low and intense. "We get to become this weird sort of family to one another. Or one of us will eventually have to kill the other. Possibly even killing each other - and likely there will be a lot more people who die in the process."

Donna hasn't been using her strength in this fight. She now does to try and knock her opponant over on her back to make a point of things.

"I've been dead. I don't want to do this anymore to either of them. To either of us. What changes depends on you understanding this. You can escape, but where are you going to go that won't get you killed eventually?"

"Working together? Forming some malformed and strange family unit?"The very idea of either scenario is almost enough to make her laugh. Though the idea of one them killing the other or mutual self-destruction, as it were, sounds far more realistic. It is easier to hate, more simple to just continue carrying on old beliefs and habits. Acting otherwise would only help to perpetuate a useless farce ( ... )

"And you think that the mercenaries are more willing to hide you? After Quraq, you have a reputation. Deathstroke has them all together now and is gunning for us and independants like you."

Her eyes soften. "Roy and Lian? They love you. They are scared to death of you. And I know what that's like. Catwoman and Major Disaster reformed. Silver Swan, even Two-Face. Even the Nazi who was the host Dark Angel."

"This," she has Cheshire pinned. "Is the way you live now. Just enough room to breathe, maybe kick out and kill but you'll never get out fast enough for it to actually be free. To not be a slave or prisoner to someone. Sometimes strength isn't holding on." She flies up and places Jade back on her feet. "It's letting go." And with that she releases her.

She grimices. "So, how many times are we going to keep this up?"

The mention of Deathstroke attempting to form a cabal amongst other villains is slightly worrisome. Unity was often a large factor in many battles and thus provided the heroes with an advantage. Most mercenaries and criminals preferred to work alone, it tended to be easier and made sense as far as a lack of trust was concerned ( ... )
