In the hustle, he makes his exit.
Outside he takes out a stick of gum and proceeds to chew on both it and Smith's dying words as he walks to the parking lot.
Fawcett City's a nice place. Sort of a living flashback to an earlier time, a more innocent time. Well, maybe not 'innocent', but simpler. The bright sun, clean streets and pleasant people are a stark contrast to Gotham and it's myriad avenues of shadow and patina of fear. In a place like this, Jim Gordon feels a bit out of place, but only a bit. Retired or not, he's a cop at heart and something happened here that needs uncovering.
Scribbling down a few notes, Gordon looks around before getting into his car; an old Gotham habit he's never gotten out of. It's time to make a few calls and see if he can't get a few peeks at the files buried in the local precinct archives. That 'old police chief' Smith spoke of, bears closer investigation.
