Lady Jocasta of Cerdia drops into a seat, covering her round face with her hands. High Priest Sonchis of Posideon’s chief temple is stone-faced. One can never tell what the elderly priest is thinking.

The Sorcerer’s Guild’s representative, Lady Blavam, curls her long fingers into a fist.

“Yes, and if there was ever a time to punish the surface for being unable to restrain its trash, it is now.”

Lord Platonoio of Idyllis turns ashen. “Answering bloodshed with bloodshed is NEVER an answer. It almost destroyed us in the past, and we won’t have it destroying us now!”

“If ever there was a reason to cut ties entirely with the land-walkers, it is this.” Sonchis’s ceremonial headdress, ornamented with gold, jingles softly as he moves. “The fact this Black Manta can assemble enough followers to accomplish this means the surface is still too barbaric to comprehend what we could give them.”

“Look at the unrest Regent Garth and King Arthur brought by establishing ties to them. A religion based on a corpse strapped to his execution device is starting among youth, brought from Sub Diego.”

He waves his hands in disgust. “Their attempts to remake Atlantis in the image of the Surface have caused damage we may NEVER rebuild from. The best we can do to keep our culture from being crushed is to sever those ties, place close watch, and discourage those surface ideas in our people by any means we can use. Atlantis has never - and will never - have need for the land.”

Platonoio shakes his head. “Now is not the time for harsh decisions, not when we all grieve and we aren’t thinking rationally. We mourn now, and decide later, when Mera has been laid to rest.”

Koatan clears his throat. “On that matter, I would petition the council to grant a day’s clemency to Arthur’s sentence of exile. It is only right that a man be allowed to grieve his wife.”

Platonoio looks curiously at him. Jocasta shifts uncomfortably in her seat, looking to the faces of the others.

“Absolutely not!” Sonchis exclaims. “What madness is this, Your Grace?”
