JSA HQ briefing room

Sep 26, 2005 13:53

*It only took 10 minutes or so for Caleb to set up for the briefing. He was a little nervous, but not overly so. He’s led teams before, after all. Never super heroes, though. But he has both led teams and chased demons.* This couldn’t be all that different, could it?*3 oversized commercial roadmaps are pinned up to the walls - one of Gotham ( Read more... )

“You heard correctly, Mr. Batson. It’s doctor, though. But, uh .. you can just call me Caleb.” *Remembering that his first case for the JSA was to help find the Captain when he was missing, continues:* “It’s good to see you’re doing well.”

*As Jay and Alan enter the room, Caleb takes note and smiles. It was very good to see so many powerhouses turning out. Caleb reaches into his folder, and produces what looks like a photocopy of a drawing in a very old book. The thing on it looks like a humanoid shaped cross between a feline and a bat, with red eyes.*

“Do any of you know what this is?”

"Caleb, this thing sounds to be capable of a great deal of death and devistation. We need a way to find and it kill it. Now. What have you got for us?"

“Laughably little, I’m afraid. Here’s what I have, however.” *Caleb gestures to the maps, and the 4 pushpins spread out between them.*

“I managed to acquire some personal items from Mr. Price’s house to attempt several locator spells. Unfortunately, they had the predicted effect of not being able to pinpoint the subject so much as give me a general area.” *Looking slightly embarrassed by his shortcomings, Caleb looks back from his maps to his team.* “This is most likely because the entity tied to the items I used no longer exists .. only his body.”

*He takes a deep breath before turning back to his maps and continuing. As he does, he points to the pushpins.* “The first of these was places 4 hour ago, and had him in northern Delaware. Then Southern New Jersey, traveling east. The most recent two - both having been done in the last hour, both place him …” *He looks right at Alan Scott.* “….in downtown Gotham City. I can’t pin him down closer than these 3 city blocks, I’m afraid. ”

"Well, I would suggest I go and check out those locations but this might preclude the element of surprise. While I can be subtle, I am living magic. Entities capable of sensing that, will know I'm there. I'll show up like a snow storm on radar."

“The same could be said for Mr. Batson.” *With his hand, Caleb gestures towards Captain Marvel.*

“The question, which I can do no more than guess at myself, is whether this will drive him away, or if he’ll ignore you. After all, your continual presence in Gotham City isn’t exactly a state secret. The, uh .. the odds are he decided to go there despite your presence.” Or because of it.. One can’t rule that out at this juncture.

"Well, my reccomendation would be to let Jim take a crack at it. Usually he can move fast enough that he can't be seen and his powers aren't magical in nature."

“I assume Jim would be the Flash, then? I’m sorry, I, uh .. I don’t know most of your private names, as yet.”

Alan smiles and turns to his old friend. "It's funny, Jay. I've been working with you so long I sometimes forget the distinction between the two identities." To Caleb, "That's my fault, Caleb. Yes, I think the Flash would be a good choice for reconnaissance."

*Caleb nods as he hands Jay a photograph of Jeremy Price. *

“I concur. Remember that if you locate it, don’t engage. Report its position, and we’ll show up in force. Good hunting.”

Jay nods, silently accepting the photo.

"Be right back," he nods.

And he's gone.
