Ted Knight's Observatory - Opal City

::Alan arrives at the observatory and feels a rush of nostalgia. It has been all to long since he has seen his good friend, Ted. Too long indeed. It is time to bring him back into the fold, if for only this once. He and the others must know what's happenned...what the Justice League did. He walks up to the door and knocks.::

There is a slight rush of wind, and Alan knows without even looking around that Jay is standing by his side.

"Alan," he greets.

[lanterns_light]

"Oh, Jay. It is so good to see you. How's Joan?"

::The insincerity in Alan's voice is rare and obvious. Something's definately up.::

The two heroes already in attendance have keen eyes. Not hard to tell the figure approaching on the beat of broad feathered wings.
And its not very long after they see his approach that there's a definite sense of something different about Carter.
They've both seen it. This is the Carter they went through Ragnarok with. The ancient general, master tactician, veteran of hundreds of lifetimes of war.
He's severe, tense, and armed to the teeth, the Claw of Horus at his belt, mace strapped loosely for easy drawing. And, as Jay is doubtless the first to see, he usually is, Carter's expression is grim at best.

Only when he lands do decades of respect and interaction show through enough that he nods in greeting as he heads for the door without a word.

[sand_hawkins]

Behind him, Alan hears the telltale hiss of Sand's silicoid form arise from the ground behind him.

"Hi everyone, your token Junior Member of the JSA Old Folks Brigade has arrived." Sand tries a smile to alleviate the tension, even slightly. After talking to Carter, he knows tonight's not going to be easy.

::Alan returns Sand's smile.::

"Though not so junior anymore, right? You are one of us. We gather as respected equals and friends..."

::Alan turns and looks purposefully at Carter.::

"All of us."

There's a long moment of silence without an answer forthcoming. Carter almost didn't show up at all, and still isn't sure its a good idea. But Sand convinced him he needed to... and Hawkman has never been one to shy away from difficulty.
Still, were this anyone in the League, they'd probably just get a cold shoulder as Carter walks past. but these are men he's fought beside for decades. A blink of an eye to him, certainly, but a significant one.
"Been a while." he finally replies, softening his tone slightly. If only slightly.

"Whatever it is you're facing, my friend, we will face it together," Jay reassures him, putting a hand on his shoulder.

Yes, there's definitely something very wrong, and Jay is the only one out of the loop. He looks at the others, but he remains silent, hoping that they will express what is wrong in short order.

[lanterns_light]

::Alan sees the face of his friend...the expression of confusion.::

"I am sorry to spring this upon you, Jay...what brought us here to talk...but I assure you all will be answered in time."

::These are platitudes, he knows, but they will have to do for now...until they can all be together. Until they can discuss this horror and put it behind them...as friends.::

Jay nods, accepting Alan's word.

[lanterns_light]

::Alan's smile widens.::

We've been to hell and back, guys. There's nothing we can't get through...except maybe this door.

knock, knock

TED! YOU IN THERE?!

*Ted arrives.*

"Sorry I'm late guys. I had a late night with a gorgeous lady."

*Sees Carter and smiles wide.*
"Hey big bird! WGood to see you! here you been these days?"

Well, two Teds are better than one...but we'll take you for now. Who are you? You have heard from Ted Knight have you?

Nope, havn't heard from Knight. He probobly got stuck working on one of his gizmos.
