At The East Side Clinic

May 21, 2011 19:31

Among individuals aged 20 to 35, drug overdoses are the third leading cause of premature death in Gotham City. The statistics are even higher than average in the East End. Most of those who survive the ordeal continue to abuse despite the experience. The terrible cycle, once started, rarely sees a happy conclusion. These past two weeks have ( Read more... )

Walking into the clinic is a man who stands out among the poor, the sick and the infirm. Handsome to the point of brilliance, blonde hair wavy and eyes a piercing blue, the man's manicured hands come to rest on the front desk.

"I'm here to see Dr. Thompkins. My name is Dr. Isaac." The man flashes a smile of perfect teeth.

Patty finishes typing her sentence before looking up from her computer. When she does, Dr. Isaac gets the thorough once over she gives everyone who walks through the clinic's doors. "Mmm, mmm, mmm. Why hello there handsome," she replied. "Where have you been all my life?"

Isaac keeps smiling. "I work in private practice, a few blocks away from here admittedly. But I really do need to see Dr. Thompkins about something incredibly important. You understand, I'm sure."

His eyes twinkle.

Not so much as the time of day. Story of her life. She brings up the appointment calendar. The name Isaac doesn't appear to be anywhere on it. "Do you have an appointment?" she asks.

Bane was certain that the man he saw turn toward the building had been one one of Crane's followers. Then again, could he be certain of anything right now? Again the image of the bat-demon from his childhood screechd in his ear. He turned to swat at it, instead knocking over a garbage can. He breathed heavily, sweating profusely. The old torments of Santa Prisca circled his mind, every sound making him more jittery as he made his way toward the clinic. He had to stop crane and his lackeys. The children had to be protected, the innocent. The children he had taken the fear bomb in the face for, as well as the young girl he had directed away from the club, images of them writhing in pain and fear went through his mind. Logically he knew they were due to Crane's fear toxin, but that didn't make them seem any less real. He would stop this ( ... )

Patty flips out. Her eyes widen in fear. In a rush to rise and back away, she knocks over her chair. She fumbles for the panic button.

"Wait..I'm not..." Bane sees a prisoner come at him with a shank. He dodges to the side and levels the man in the face. Of course what he really did was punch in a nearby cabinet, the glass cutting his hand.

The receptionist does what she's been trained to do. She dives under her desk in a panic, putting a barrier between her and what she perceives as a dangerous patient. The door that leads to the examination rooms and offices is only several feet from the cabinet Bane has just destroyed.

Selina was on her way to Leslie's as it was and now she's very glad that she did. What the hell is going on in here?

"You can't run, worm! You will not hurt them anymore!" Bane couldn't follow through the small window so he was charging back out through the way he came.

"Bane!"

She doesn't yell at him but she can't help the startled exclamation. If there was someone she wasn't expecting to see, Bane was pretty high up on the list. Dropping down, she moves her weight over to one side. One leg remains out, in his way, looking to trip him.

If bane had been in his right state of mind, he could have easily avoided Selina's leg. In his current state however he had been so fixated on getting Isaac that he came tripped forward. Bane had enough instinct left to roll into a crouch position.

"No! You mustn't stop me! He will hurt the children! No more must die!" Bane looks frantically to pick up a trace of Isaacs.

Many hours later, Leslie is still keeping a watchful eye on Bane. She knows from personal experience that recovering from fear toxin is both taxing physically and emotionally. He shouldn't be alone when he wakes.

He groaned as the first remnants of consciousness returned to him.

"Que? Donde?"

Her Spanish is limited but "what" and "where" are pretty common questions upon waking up confused.

She moves into his line of sight. "You're in the East Side Clinic," she reminds him gently. "Just rest."
