"Hi Alfred," Babs smiled at him. "I actually tried to get here about four days ago. I got trapped under a truck that spun out of control and took me with it. I'm mostly okay, I guess I just need to have my ankle looked at."
"I ought to call my dad, too, once I figure out where he is. He'll go crazy worrying." She hadn't spoken to him in days. Longer than before she'd left for the Manor. They'd lost their connection and she'd opted to go straight to the Manor and try to reach him from there, rather than driving downtown to find him first.
Four days. While he was off with Darkseid, beating on villains and pretending to be Batman, Barbara was under a truck that was out of control. She could have died. Without Ted she probably would have died.
He looks to one side and tries to maintain a straight-faced demeanor.
She didn't exactly pretend not to notice Dick's reaction, but she didn't try to call attention to it either as she spoke to Alfred and the others. Lifting her hand though, to cup the side of his face, brushing her thumb along his cheek, she murmured without looking and so only he could hear, "You'll not be rid of me that easily, Grayson."
And then someone was calling her name with great enthusiasm. Frowning with confusion, Babs turned her head toward the breakfast room and it was like seeing a long-forgotten classmate and friend at a high school reunion. There was a moment teetering on the precipice of recognition, then the plunge into the streams of mnemosyne, where all her memories of Tim were suddenly there again, as if they'd never been gone at all.
"Tim!" Babs' grin nearly split her face in two. "Oh my God, Tim! How on earth...? Get over here and hug me, I have no wheels."
Right now he'd be hard pressed to think of anyone that can outcook Alfred.
