Meeting with the Society

Oct 30, 2010 17:43

In his current headquarters, Deathstroke sits calmly at a desk, a series of monitors in front of him. He's usually researching targets and devising plans, but today he needs it for something different. Slade's attitude had shifted, he no longer was content to let heroes parade around like Greek gods, basking in the love and adoration of all. They ( Read more... )

The Calculator is the first on the line.

"Unternet protocol secure. This is the Calculator. Nice to hear from you, Slade."

Icicle's visage appears on the meeting screen soon as well.

"I've been wondering if we'd decided to scrap the whole Society. Things have been pretty quiet lately."

"Faust, here."

Felix's voice sounds annoyed - he doesn't really care for technological communications at all.

"Good to hear from you to Noah. Anyway, you're not far off the mark Icicle, but the Society is not going to be scrapped, just ... reorganized." Slade says, steepling his fingers. "I've been thinking a lot lately, and the thing is, the heroes have gotten too big, too strong. But lately, they've been more dark, more dangerous. They lobotomized Light, and that might just be beginning. At the risk of sounding paranoid, I think they're losing their morality."

"Icicle, did you notice that a month or so after the whole Light affair, Batman distanced himself from the League? He's been a member in every incarnation except the first. It doesn't take the worlds greatest detective to figure out something's up." Slade said, giving a cold stare.

At Grodd's appearance, Deathstroke raised an eyebrow, "Yes Grodd, it has. Anyway, I assume you've been listening, and chose now to chime in?"

Turning to Noah, he replied, "That could be troublesome, but I'm not too concerned, since the ones on Earth are soft. They wouldn't kill. But to be sure, we need to take them out from a distance, not give them an opportunity to respond if we engage them. Overall, I'm not too concerned." Slade drummed his fingers on the desk. "If we are to fight them, I'd call in Sinestro. Aside from that, I called this meeting primarily to see who is ready to go after the heroes. So, who's in?"

"My best information has Sinestro rotting in an Oan Sciencell right now. He's unavailable. And.. go after the heroes? To what end? Are you planning to kill them and take over the world?"

Calculator makes an adjustment, so he can address Deathstroke without the other parties on the line hearing.

"Listen, Slade, I know you've had some setbacks recently, but I'm beginning to suspect this is personal, not business. And if you want to go on a vendetta, that's fine. I'm sure a lot of the rank and file will go with you. But I'm not sticking my neck out because you're pissed off."

"I don't plan to take over, I just want them dead. What happens afterwards isn't my concern." Deathstroke says, and making a similar adjustment replies to Calculator, "Yes, this is personal, because that's what they've made it. I'm also not asking you to do anything drastic, just do what you're better than anyone else at, supply information, at 50% over your usual rate." Deathstroke then return to the usual channel.

"I can provide information and resources, but leave the Society's name out of it, Slade. We're pragmatic, not vengeful. The Society exists to protect each other from heroic excesses and maximize individual profits - not to be a penny-ante revenge society."

"If you fail, I don't want this back on the Society's head. If you succeed - God help us all."

"Fewer heroes to stop robberies or hits, stretched thinner. They'll be able to catch less, thus profit. But I respect your decision." Deathstroke said, waiting to see if Icicle would reconsider.

"Again, no offense, Deathstroke, but I don't know that you've thought this through. As soon as you kill a few, the rest of them are going to be like a nest of pissed-off hornets - only instead of stingers, they have planet-busting magic rings. If anything, this will push them back towards the mindwipes and extreme tactics we formed the Society to stop."

"Good luck, but Tigress and I are going to find a nice little bunker in the Carribbean to hole up in until this blows over."

"Very well. Good bye." Deathstroke says, cutting the transmission with Icicle

Noah, on the other hands, maintains icicle's link and establishes a private sideline there.

"We have a problem, Cameron."

Just then a new signal is broadcast to Deathstroke.

"Wilson, this is General Eiling," The massive soldier was currently speaking on an encrypted frequency from a hidden location. "Grodd just informed me you're ready for war."

Eiling leans forward.

"I respect you, so as one military man to another I want you to level with me. I left the Society because a war was brewing and you weren't ready to fight it. Are you now? Because if you're ready to take it to the League, I'll fight beside you, but if I agree to join this war, we fight to win. Are we in agreement?"

"Eiling, I'm not going to take it to the League." Slade puls a combat knife from his belt, twirling it around his fingers, "I'm going to scare them, I'm going to weaken and scatter them, then I'm going to take it to the Justice League. Then, the Watchtower's going to burn." Deathstroke stabbed the knife into his desk, "I'm wargaming this as we speak, once I've perfected my plan. It's not going to be a war, it's going to be a slaughter." After a pause, Deathstroke decided to add one more thing, "I'm in this to see them broken, like they've tried to do to me."

Eiling smiles, his tusks prominent as his grin widens.

"Hot damn, that's what I like to hear! What do you need from me?"

"Your muscle and expertise Eiling. Grodd and I are meeting at these coordinates at 5 A.M. tuesday." Slade grins under his mask as he taps the coordinates in morse code on his desk.
