Coast City bewaresinestro September 5 2009, 21:23:53 UTC
The Flash, along with Tekik and Murr's nessicary counter-arrival, was a bit of a burr in his masterpiece. But even then...

...they were staying. The people of Coast City were staying. They were sitting there, WAITING TO DIE, shining that awful green light from every window and door that wasn't boarded up or blotted out. These humans, Sinestro confirmed, were all mad.

Which is why he has to play dirty. They will get with things. He will save the Earth, and drag them kicking and screaming into a civilized way of life. And so, mighty Sinestro hovers outside of James Jordan's home, holding his ring at the horrified faces of Hal Jordan's only living family.

"I'd say this isn't personal..." Sinestro's smug attitude dissolves into a malevolent sneer. "But that would be a lie."

There's a flash of emerald light above the city - a hyperspatial gateway in the form of the Green Lantern symbol, discharging flitting green lights - including one growing very rapidly larger.

"Sinestro. This is low, even for you."

He dives in, swinging an over-sized green fist at his archenemy.

A dozen skeletal yellow hands grab the fist, twisting it viciously and forcing Jordan's arc of flight just below Sinestro!

"One moment." Sinestro informs Hal's family, his eyes gleaming in anticipation. He leaps out of the hole he's made in the building, allowing himself to fall freely as he cranes to catch a glimpse of Green Lantern! Ghastly yellow arrows snap from Sinestro's aura, trying to catch Hal off guard.

Jordan has turned, his ring conjuring little green apples and target-circles to intercept the arrows one by one.

"You seem angry, Sinestro - didn't get the fearful reception you anticipated?"

The storm comes heavy from the skies, seeing the absolute devastation unfurling from the Anti-Monitor.

"Jesus Christ," John Stewart gasps to himself, invoking a deity he's long since stopped believing in.

"Lanterns!" he barks, trying to take charge. "Focus all power on that big ugly bastard! He can't take us ALL on!"

Or so he hopes.

Guy's squad offers defensive cover for Stewart, his team and the innocents on the ground. Grueling long hours of drills and hard boiled boot camp discipline bear fruit as they move like a well oiled machine together. Many who would have died before the Anti-Monitor's power are saved and evacuated to safety. John and the assaulting Lanterns are provided emerald bulwarks and shielding so that they may devote their resources entirely to the offensive.

Guy himself however plays to his strengths.
A giant emerald steel toed boot collides with the Anti-Monitor's head.

"Hey Ugly! We're 86ing yer nasty carcass! Get the hell off our planet!"

"The Green Lanterns! Thank God."

Jay breathes a sigh of relief - they're not out of the woods, not by a long shot, but it's nice to have the extra firepower.

Arisia arrives at the UN as well, unleashing her will upon the Anti-Monitor along with her companions. She has no illusions that this is anything other than the fight of her life. For a few moments, she can feel her father over her shoulder as she unleashes the blast of green.

"LISTEN UP, POOZERS!" Kilowog snaps through the rings at his fleet of Lanterns. "Fan out! Pick your targets, make 'em know what you're made of! Don't take fear for an answer - be brave and bold and knock 'em cold!"

The Big Vik comes streaking out of the sky, charging full-bore into the first member of Sinestro's crew he can get his hands on.

Diana barely gets her hands up in time to protect her face from the shower of splinters, but is left with hundreds of tiny scratches and splinters.

Not a moment to waste, cannot let her get up from the ground... Diana begins an unrelenting barrage of hits, striking Fatality over and over again in attempt to drive her into the ground.

A flash of green in the sky draws her attention briefly.

The amber shield around her protects Fatality from the worst of it, so she's able to capitalize on the moment of distraction - she releases an omnidirectional burst of energy to try and get Diana OFF of her.

She is driven back by the blast, hurtling and twisting through the air in an uncontrolled arc.

Recovering in mid-air, Diana streaks back towards the other woman, unhooking the lasso from her belt. With one smooth motion she loops it around Fatality with a snap and pulls, tugging her up from the ground.

"You are correct -- we really are just beginning this."

He should have gone home. He should have run. But he stayed, so he could watch...

So he could watch a car drop onto his husband, apparently.

Time stops for Damon. Todd and the Shade had been talking, Todd had started begging, there was a weird black energy-thing...and then this.

His emotions can't settle. He feels a nigh-unbridled rage at these 'Sinestro Corps,' at the Shade for distracting Todd, at himself for getting in trouble in the first place and needing Todd's rescue.

He feels a pain so deep that he thinks he might be dying--just like Todd. He never thought he could feel this way. They'd talked about how Damon would age and die long before Todd would--this wasn't supposed to be the way it went. It hurts so much he can't move.

And most of all, he feels love. Love that causes the rage. Love that causes the pain. Love that fills him so much he's choking on it.

And then something weird happens.

It isn't a ring, but a stone somewhere between pink and lavender.

It isn't meant for him, but for another, who it has taken before. But the sudden spike of love draws it regardless.

The two creatures in yellow it ignores for now. The creature once known as 'Richard Swift' it ignores as well. And the dying host of the Darkforce catches its attention, but only in relation to the other. The human.

The human for now, anyways.

Her shielding had barely managed to deflect the Anti-Monitor's beam, and Jennie had flown somewhat unsteadily to perch on a nearby windowsill to catch her breath.

There's a tug on her connection to Todd, an echo of horrible pain and then...

No. Jennie is off the sill and flying as fast as she can to where she can sense him, sense him... No, he'll be fine.

Todd, answer me. C'mon, ANSWER ME. She screams through the mental connection.

There isn't much answer. He isn't conscious enough for that.

He can barely sense her in return, and even then, it's fading fast.

Jennie...Damon...he's still here...

Hourman finds himself fighting through another wave of constructs. He's corralled the citizens held on the bridge into a relatively safe area, and barks directions for their escape.

He sees an oncoming bolt of yellow energy and crosses his arms, getting knocked backwards by its impact. "Not yet, asshole...you will not pass!"

Romat-Ru cackles.

"I thank you, Earthling. Their fear tastes better huddled together like this. Hunting them down would have been fun, but the fear of a mob...If only they'd been children."

Romat's ring glows once more, as another wave of constructs appears from the aether.

"Are you fast enough to stop them all, I wonder?"

"I don't have to be..." Hourman emerges from a hero-shaped dent in a car. "...just fast enough to stop YOU!"

With that, he rips one of the beams from the bridge and aims it, battering ram-style at Romat-Ru. He takes three running steps and launches.

It's unexpected, and Romat-Ru goes flying backwards with the impact. His shield absorbed much of the blow, but at Hourman's current strength, that only means the alien still has a head attached to his shoulders.

He wasn't alone, though, and Karu-Sil's three predator-constructs descend upon Rick, all yellow teeth and claws.
