In the past, otherworldly visitations have occurred at his seat of power, where powerful veves and charms ensured a certain 'home advantage' in such encounters. Such is not the case today.
Ordinarily, there were a number of options he could exploit in such an unsolicited visitation. The rules were filthy with stipulations about this kind of thing when it came to demons.
That was the problem. The First wasn't exactly a demon. It was unique and thus so were many of the rules that governed its conduct. Time to be civil.
The brief pause of calculation was probably not missed by the ancient creature, so he didn't pretend to hide it. Instead he nodded his head with polite deference and took the chair opposite from him.
A draw of the cigar and another moment of silence and he begins,
"I'm guessing that John Constantine will figure into this conversation?"
