Navigating through bleary signals and Constantine's direction, Hell really is a lovely place. Through what looked like the shallow outline of a town (minus anything that looked like people), and down and down, avoiding the locals, into desert ( Read more... )

*Lots of activity up ahead, still trying to clear up the odd energy readings enough to get an idea of numbers. Watch out for ambush... they don't seem to want us here much.*

"Oh, and Caleb's on the other side. He pissed somebody off that fast." She's just rolling her eyes now. Someone needs to smack him with a whiffle bat. "Well, we could just *fwip* on over there and tip toe out of here. Go home, call it a day."

*Far be it from me to be the voice of caution... but given how messed up spacial relations and the magical threads are here, I'd recommend teleporting right up there with Russian roulette.*

He's familiar enough with the types of demons that as soon as he can get an actual look at what's out there his face sets in a grim line.

"It's an army." And of course he's pissed people off, Caleb just sort of has that way sometimes. But this is family business and no one hates you like your family.

"Ellie's people, used t'be Nergal's with a few additions here an there. Not very nice people."

As the Outsiders observe the demons, so to do the demons notice the Outsiders. A group of skirmishers quietly make masterful use of the terrain to approach their enemies, and just as Corrine teleports away, two dozen snarling, toothy things descend from the hills on both sides, throwing a volley of alchemical explosive before charging their prey.

As though on cue, a small party of golems detaches from the main body of Ellie’s forces and begins a charge directly for the Outsiders.

"Now would be the time t'start hittin' people." He's taking a few steps back since he's not exactly in the whole league of beating stuff up. He deals with demons other ways and they aren't going to be as good here.

Thankfully, a power ring is equally useful just about anywhere. 'Anything you can conceptualize, and will the be' is a nicely broad thing.
Granted, Travis isn't the best GL for toe-to-toe, he doesn't think in terms of raw firepower and impervious shields the way most naturally do, but he's still pretty effective at blunting the charge. Now if there just weren't so many.
Even as, once he picks a side to defend, the landscape rebels against them - rocks start flying in a whirl of literal fire and brimstone, sweeping up demons, and using them to batter more of their fellows. Downside - there's still plenty more sides, and an entire contingent of golems.

Oh, and distractions. With no obvious reason, Travis perks his head up with a quizzical look.
"Damnit."

The first demon to get too close is going to find out their mistake the hard way. Talons as long as fingers leave them shredded on the ground, the only limbs going astray right now don't belong to her.

The next demons will think twice before getting within range as they've never seen anything quite like Tefe. They quickly find that with her maleable body that 'out of range' isn't a real concept as they join the bodies on the ground.

Ah the one thing that most people forget is that Hell is not so much a landscape (although it is that too) but a reflection of those who rule it. The blood of a demon lord gives them control over the realm itself and can be used in so many ways.

Like redirecting a teleportation spell to alter where it ends up.

Suddenly Corrine is standing in front of a demoness instead of Caleb.

"My my, what have we here?"

Well, it would've been "ea-sy!" if she actually ended up where she intended to.

Instead, she's staring at Ellie. Crap! Now's a good time for 'get the HELL out of here'. She cracks an over-sized grin and attempts another teleport, this one just generally known as 'away'.

Except that when one controls what is here and there in Hell, away suddenly isn't really going anywhere. Corrine feels the teleport go things blink out, then in and she's still looking at Ellie. Who suddenly gives her own wide grin showing sharp teeth.

"Oh it's not that easy here, you really should know more about a place before you trespass." And her hand shoots out to grab Corrine by the neck, pricking the skin with sharp talons.

Research good. It doesn't help the blood now or what feels like poison fire in the wound. It's spreading and everything burns, the only thing she can think is taking such a close shot from the infernal. The world's getting unfocused.

Corrine grips one arm to her opponent's, lashing the other out at whatever is around and throwing out as much holy energy as she can muster through pain. It may get her away, at least. TRAVIS! And here's hoping he's still in a position to assist.

This is ridiculous. Seven of them trying to fight the hordes of Hell is just going to turn into a metaphysical version of Custer's last stand, and Hotshot is determined to avoid that.

Shooting into the sky, Trevor clasps both hands over his head and closes his eyes in concentration. His hands begin to glow like a second sun, and as their brilliance reaches its peak he rockets back down into the midsts of the horde of demons. On impact that fire lances out in opposite directions, creating a wall almost twenty feet high through the army, a solid wall that suddenly and violently pushes out to the sides to create a fire-lined corridor with Trevor standing in the middle. His arms are spread, fire burning most of the way to his elbows, and his hair seems to be burning as well.

"LET MY MONKEYS GO!" Trevor yells in his best Charlton Heston voice, an instant before he realizes that absolutely no one is going to get that joke.

Chaos fills the ranks on both ides of the solid-fire wall, as hundreds of misplaced demons are hurled onto those next to them, creating mounts of angry creatures clawing at each other for air. Those immediately nearby step in and start pulling there brethren apart.

Meanwhile, at the peak of the cave, a group of demons begins to attack the wall, hoping to collapse the construct and resume their drive towards the cave.

"Haul it, Outsiders!"

Trevor stands completely still, arms still held out as if trying to support the walls physically. One of the first lessons he had to learn as a member of the Oustiders was that sometimes being part of a team means closing your eyes as the enemy closes in, and having faith that your teammates will keep you alive. Hotshot does that now, closing his eyes and pouring all of his concentration into the walls, which begin growing supporting arms and firm up even as the demons continue their assault.

The chimp got the monkey joke.

He even appreciates it. But he's still too grumpy to laugh.

Instead, he sticks to the center of the crowd. He's about the least useful in a fight of all these people, and he's keeping an eye out for any sneaky demons who are trying to get behind his allies.

The infernal energy doesn't much harm Merlynne, but it manages to unravel the protections around her. The aura powers down and before she can place it again the numbers are closing. Screw it. She doesn't even pause in her charging and lays into the shaman with her sword as she goes past.

No, she hasn't had a moment to look up, or she wouldn't look quite as confused when she reaches the small break where the wall should be. And the demons are closing the break fast, right towards her. Something tells her to look up, and she does. Time to make a call.

Travis, I can attempt another teleport and hope Miss Disrupt isn't waiting, or we can lay them some cover with whatever we've got. I'm letting this be your call because quite frankly I don't want to make it.

Hank rolls to his side, and coughs. What comes up is bright red.

Not good.

However, he doesn't have to move, or see. He uses part of his power to shut off his own pain receptors, and reaches out to only one person.

Tefe. Trying desperately to get her reigned in so she can help the team.

Dammit, Tefe, we are *not* dying before we see Fantasia Barrino in 'Color Purple'. Fight this.

Travis notes Caleb's response, and senses the energy readings of the flame barrier get closer instead of further away. He and Caleb are definitely going to have to get used to working together, because this isn't cutting it.

He can protect himself, he was able to support Merlynne, now that she's providing some offense - but the others are drawing fire instead of getting out, in the name of trying to save them... which neatly prevents him from getting himself and Merlynne out, since she'd insist on coming back for the others.

He doesn't reply to Caleb, but does to Merlynne, *Caleb won't leave you behind, or think he's leaving you behind. I'd intended to keep the army busy long enough for them to escape... then bolt us both out... but I don't think they have an escape route anymore now that they've advanced. Can you do anything to help Trevor protect the group if I get you to them?*

She lets the expletive fly as she lays into another advancing demon. Damn him damn him damn him! She's still fighting, instinct, pissed off that of course he'd be that personal in this situation.

Merlynne switches her comm on mid-swing, just in time to miss one behind her. She ducks around and shoves him into another, blasting the whole lot with holy energy. She really doesn't like the idea of giving Ellie and her people one united group to fire at. Rest assured she's angry enough to beat Caleb herself but she'll deal with him later. Get me up there, and there's a world of pissed off in her response.
