Time it was and what a time it was

Right now Oracle wants nothing more than to hail the Watchtower and talk to her husband, find out how their daughter is doing, find out when they can both come home. But she has to satisfy herself with occasionally glancing at the medical records as they're updated in the Watchtower sick bay. It's not enough. But it's all she has time for ( Read more... )

Superman had arrived on the Watchtower ten minutes ago, after an AGONIZING but necessary 15 minute conversation with the media. He's thankful that Pete Ross now has access to the button or this could be a lot worse.

Then Oracle's transmission hits. It's a lot worse.

Superman immediately heads to the computer central tactical center. He doesn't ask for what he wants because everyone's way too tired as it stands. Within seconds, he's got an aerial view of the four situations from satellite, as leaders from the other groups begin to file in.

He had just taken Wally up on his speed-heal offer. He's grateful he did when he hears that come in. There's the other shoe.

Copy that, Oracle.

He switches to the Titans' frequency.

All Titans, this is Nightwing. All of you who can fight, report to the observation deck. I'll be there to brief you shortly.

And he sets off at a run for the tactical heart of the Watchtower.

Nightstar flies along the corridors of the Watchtower in response to Nightwing's summons, arriving quickly at the observation deck.

Sand comes in, looking worn. New York City is finally down to a dull roar, but again, he just got back up here for some quick R&R when this came down.

He walks in and sees the monitors. In the one over Belle Reve, he sees a familiar sight - of three women, with eyes glowing, causing explosions all around the complex.

"Magique." Sand says. "OK, we've had a deadly virus, mind control, and now prison breakouts. What's next, sharks with lasers attached to their heads?"

Superman waits for more heroes to file in. Just the ones currently on the Watchtower are staggering right now, let alone those in the trenches. He speaks to those assembled through the watchtower.

"We've got four situations here. The prison breakouts are three of them. The fourth is a magical disturbance at Wrigley Field in Chicago." He points to a smallish blip on the screen that, as it gets in for a closeup, can be seen as a young child. "The person there, according to our records, is Klarion, also called the 'Witch Boy'."

"I'm not sure why he's there, and at the moment, it's irrelevant. We're going to need to dispatch teams to deal with this, but it's also important to keep a contingent here in the event that this is all a ruse to get an open attack on the Watchtower, or somewhere else entirely. With all the mind games so far, I wouldn't put that past Light."

Sand's the first to speak. "Outsiders will take Belle Reve. Between Magique being there and that being the home region of one of our members, we need to get that square."

He studies the readouts for a few moments, then looks up at the assembled.

Sir, Alcatraz is our responsibility.

Granted, our track record right now SUCKS...

The Titans are on this one.

God knows how that's going to go over right now. And now, it's time to bite the bullet and swallow a lot of pride. He fingers the small device Bruce gave him earlier.

I know this is going to stretch us. We're already stretched. So ... I'd like to request any additional assistance you think you can reasonably spare.

Superman looks at the readouts. "Dr. Manhattan is at Blackgate. He's Light's so called 'Superman Solution'. But I've fought people with inherent Kryptonite radiation before. We should probably concentrate the heavier hitters of the League there. Diana should lead a squad against Manhattan himself while Batman takes a team to deal with the inmates."

"This leaves Chicago, which the JSA should probably take point on, although given the threat I'm praying Dr. Fate shows up soon."

"Those are general assignments. For those not sure where to go - go where your feel you need to be most." He thinks. "Dinah, Wally, the two of you, Ralph and Hal, at least, should remain on the satellite. And try to get Ollie back up here too, if you can, so if we need to at least make it appear we're going through with his demands, you guys are all in one place."

The cell block erupted in alarms, Canadian prison guards ran the long rows counting inmates and checking security measures. Trustees mopping the hallways were told to return 'immediately'. Two Guards had stopped at Slater's cell, they checked the locks and sealed the tray slot on the door. Slater cautiously approached the window on the door, never before had he experienced such an intense Lockdown of the prison. Anyone too slow to return to his cell was beaten with knightsticks, four inmates had been dragged off to solitary. Someone had mentioned something about 'jailbreaks' and 'rioting'. Frustration boiled in Slater's mind as he turned away from the window. He dropped onto his cot, covering his face to block out the world around him.

"Slater!" A guard bangs at his cell door. "You're wanted. Stand up."

He does as he's told, he approaches the door but can't see the guard.

"Don't try anything," says another guard. "You're going to see the warden."

From a corner of the Planet building, Trevor sits his fifth cup of coffee on the ring circling the globe as he thumbs his communicator with the other hand. His eyes are bloodshot after almost a day and a half awake, and one of them is swelling where a lucky rioter tagged him, but the fires around the city, both social as well as literal, are back within the scope of the Metropolis PD.

"Hotshot here. Tell me where you need me, and as long as I can get transport, I'm good to go."

A synthesized voice answers him: "Stand by for teleport to Belle Reve."

Forty-five seconds later, Nightwing arrives on the observation deck, where the other Titans have assembled. He looks them over for the first time since before they headed to what they'd thought was Light's hideout.

Nightstar's face is still faintly bruised, but she's on her feet and looking very serious.

Starfire stands near Nightstar, shifting restlessly from one foot to the other, occasionally hovering off the ground.

Lifting his left hand to his right shoulder, Grant rubs at the joint, frowning at the rather harsh twinge of pain. The bruises on his face don't look like they feel all that great, either. He might have to go into whatever they're facing swinging with only one arm, but he's going. Period.

"What're we looking at, Nightwing?" he asks, looking the older Titan over. There are still streaks of dried blood around his mask and his dark hair is matted, and he looks tired.
