Selinda stood there, shaking her head. "I don't get this. You've GOT them. You've got everyone by the short and curiles, and you actually WANT them to find you?"
"Not ALL of them." Light said, smirking. "Only certain ones. That's what your job is...to keep them all busy."
He then turns to everyone. "This gambit will mean the end of the Monster Society - at least for now - simply because we will have accomplished our goals. The heroes...the very CONCEPT of heroism as it relates to Earth today...will be in ruins. And we will all be enjoying the good life."
He turns to Mammoth, Shimmer, Magique, Dr. Manhattan and Psimon. "You know your roles. Sow discontent. Take them to the brink. Then crack hell wide open. Be as malevolent as you wish. You don't even need to stick around to see your handiwork - you can simply leave. The money in your accounts will be more than sufficient for each of you to live well for the rest of your days. What you do with them is up to you."
"But I've never been prouder of a group that I've worked with. You've done very well." He smiles. "Let's finish this. Wave 1 goes in thirty minutes - wave two in two hours. Good luck."
Baran smiles. "We can finally leave the life, right Selinda? After this?"
Selinda smiles. "Yes, after this." There was a small part of Selinda that was very squeamish about the thought of children being killed, until Light reminded her that the heroes ALWAYS managed to save lives. The target wasn't the children - it was the heroes. The children are simply meant to throw the heroes off edge.
"I hope this works the way you want it to, Arthur. Because if it doesn't, I have no doubt this will be the last time I ever see you."
"By the time this is over, those who wronged me will be very, very dead, and I'll be sipping mai-tais and watching the Oakland Raiders in peaceful bliss, Selinda." He takes her hand and kisses it in genteel fashion. "It was a pleasure getting the working relationship right this time."
