I definitely don't think that the Wild benefitted from getting Dany Heatley, nor do I think that he represents "the next level" unless they make some other moves, though they also got Devin Setoguchi from the Sharks, too.
You're right about Michalek being a reasonable addition to the team, but he's been inconsistent the last two years, perhaps partially due to the injuries. Cheechoo never really got a decent chance here the year he played for Ottaw, and Sutton was a decent defenseman, but not really what Ottawa needed at the time.
No, you're absolutely right. The Sutton deal was for a rental player, and in the end, that didn't work out with the salary cup stuff and the fact that he was bound to get better offers than what Ottawa might have given him.
You're right on all counts about Cheechoo. That said, if he had gotten a decent chance in Ottawa, he might have turned his game around. But the point is moot now...
Good point about the Setoguchi stuff, and the business with the Heatley to Minnesota deal being made worthwhile that way. That said, the Wild have so little scoring that the addition of Setoguchi and Heatley gives them a bit more offense for the coming year, I suspect.
