Friday Board Gaming on a Sunday Afternoon

Jan 02, 2011 19:04

There was a possibility that spross might have come over this afternoon. We weren't going to do a roleplaying game, as Tammy is quite ill with some bug that has her glandularly inflamed and all, but that's another matter. In any event, I figured it was going to be a pretty quiet Sunday afternoon, but got a call around 12:00 pm from KathyB, wondering if ( Read more... )

I'm glad you are enjoying Pandemic. FYI, the On The Brink expansion says it adds rules for a fifth player. In what can only be described as a cheap money grab, the 'rules' for the fifth player are "use the fifth token and role. Deal two cards to each player at the start, as you would in a four player game. All other rules are the same."

While there is a bunch of good stuff in On the Brink, if you only want it for the fifth player option, as I initially did, save yourself the coin.

While that does sound like it was a cheesy thing to do, not to mention a cheap money grab, in terms of the fifth player, I actually like the game enough that I want the expansion set for the variant rules.

Picked up the expansion today, at Strategy Games here in Ottawa.

Btw, which variants have you played so far?

I've only played the Mutation variant. We had enough new players over the Christmas break that we only really played the basic game, and then the mutation a few times. I'd like to try the other two variants soon.

Haven't opened the box of the expansion yet, but there's a couple of variants in there that sound interesting and intriguing. Looking forward to them, but I can handle playing a few more games using the regular set-up.

Thanks for having us over to play, John. I loved Pandemic, as it was so much more fun than some of the competitive games we've played over the years, and your goddaughter had a wonderful time with it.

She also liked Britannia, but was bored with the seemingly historical elements of the game. Ah, well, she's entitled. Look forward to sme more boardgames this year, too. :)

Thank *you* guys and gals for coming over to play, Kathy. Much appreciated, as ever. :)

I'm glad that Ellie had a good time with Pandemic, since that is one of the reasons I purchased the game. As for Britannia, she seems to have had a good time with the game, regardless of whether she was bored with the historical aspects of it. Heck, she did a really good job with the Romans! :)

Like you, I'm looking forward to playing a few more board games as well. :)
