Legion of Super-Roleplaying Thoughts

As mentioned in several other posts, but notably this one, I've been re-reading my collection of Legion of Super-Heroes comics from the beginning, and doing up detailed files on each of the LSH tales within. (If anyone is interested, I can post one of the issue write-ups to give folks an idea of what I'm doing ( Read more... )

1) After the "Bronze Age" -- the muddying of four colour Silver Age sensibilities with just a touch of real;ism, I really have a hard time accepting the LSH, with their "-Boy" and "-Lad" titles. The first Crisis really is the time atr which they should have drifted away.

2) What's wrong with the current iteration? Allergies to the dodecahedron?

3) DC's old ludicrous "Situation with quotes that misrepresent what's happening in the issue still make me wince.

1) To be honest, I always found the "Boy", "Girl", "Lad", "Lass" titles to be an endearment to the fans, and when the Legionnaires grew up somewhat in the years around the time of the original Crisis, the characters were calling themselves by their given names, and not their code names (with exceptions of course).

2) Nothing wrong with the current iteration, other than Earth Man of course. :) Well, that and his Shadow Lass thing. :(

3) hehe That was more the titles of the old comics, for sure, though I can't say I've paid much attention that in the current stuff I read.

When it comes down to it, I'm just glad that Levitz is back on the comics! :)

The current iteration of DC Roleplaying. :) My question clearly was not clear.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the Icons frmat for handling the character sheets and all, and the fact that the game is very much an illustrated and graphical one. Add to the fact that one of the supplements that I really want, the Ion Guard stuff, is only available in PDF, and... I just don't like the approach to the game that GMS has taken to that game, to be honest.

Actually, I never had problems with the DC Heroes system mixing power levels all that much. The LSH aesthetic has characters like Duo Damsel and Matter-Eater Lad in the company of Mon-El and Superboy. And it worked very well, and was handled nicely in the DC Heroes game.

You're welcome on the feedback. :)

One of the compromises I always gave seemingly underpowered heroes in DCH was a few bonus Hero Points. Always seemed to help in balancing out stuff. You're right about the fact that DC Heroes did do a good job on the four-colour comix, but it also did a good job when it came to the grittier stuff, simply because one could change the damage rules and the Hero Point rules to reflect a grittier style.

For me, one of the things I really liked about the game was the flexibility of the Powers, using bonuses and drawbacks to tailor powers to what one wanted them to do. Others probably have differing opinions on this, no doubt. :)
