The Return of Dawnstar

Apr 28, 2007 10:48

While I seem to be on the subject of comics...

At some point, I'm going to go into some depth on my fondness and love of the Legion of Super-Heroes, the 30th Century super group in the DC Universe. However, I want to comment on something more specific, and more current, here.

Glad she's coming back...

I'm working on the Dawnstar writeup for WORG, so you know she's special in my heart, too ^_^

Hey, Puf,

Good to hear that you're working on Dawny's stats and all. I'll comment on them for sure when you post that up to the WORG list. Who have you got in mind to do after Dawny? Wildfire, perhaps? :)

Wildfire's already been done, actually, and is on WORG.

I'm quite proud of it, being my first attempt at a classic pre-Crisis Legionnaire.

*sigh*

I really have to visit the WORG website more often, but to misquote a Stones sonmg, "Time is not on my side, no it's not." Will check it out sooner rather than later. :)

I just ran across this ... With Dawnstar's appearances having been made in JSA/JLA and Action Comics, and with "Legion of Three Worlds" yet to come, were you pleased with how she showed up?

I know I am, with Gary Frank's redesigned outfit being her best since the original classic golden-yellow look.

And what's WORG? ;)

I don't know whether I was pleased, so much as happy (that she was back) at Dawnstar's reintroduction, although the new outfit wasn't all that great from my pov. This is likely because, while I understand the desire and need to change the costumes for a more contemporary look, I was rather more fond of her sleek, spaceworthy style in the original. (We won't get into her days as Bounty at all.)

As for WORG, it's a series of pages devoted to character game stats of all sorts for the old DC HEROES roleplaying game, once published by Mayfair Games and now resurrected as Blood of Heroes from Pulsar Games (although nothing has been published by Pulsar in years). The WORG site has stats for all kinds of Legion characters and equipment and all, and is a great site for game material related to the game. It spawned off from the DC HEROES mailing list which is still going strong after all this time on Yahoo Groups.

Not a problem, insofar as the Bounty business is concerned. :)

I agree with you about Dawnstar's costume's sleekness being hampered by the fringe, but bear in mind that was the homage and all to the Native Amerindian aspect of the character. The new look of her uniform is all right, but nothing special to me. I'm just glad the wings are back! :)

Yep, the old Mayfair books are cool... I ran a Legion campaign of DC HEROES set at the Legion Academy, back around the time of the Millenium business, and going forward. The player charaxcters never did like Laurel Kent! :)
