Important Subject If You're Going to GenCon

I've been giving some thought to all things GenCon Indy at the moment, given the convention is just a few hours away from starting (if there aren't already games underway). Thought that I would pass along a simple piece of advice: Remember the 5/3, 2, 1 Rule of GenCon. This means that in every 24 hours, get at least 5 (or 3) hours of sleep a ( Read more... )

The Creation Supernatural Convention in Toronto was doing covid rapid tests at the door which seemed like a great precaution. I've not heard of any other local con doing that but they all should.

I wish masks were mandatory. I just can't go into a crowd like that when I know most will be unmasked and I'd guess there will be many who haven't got a vaccine since their second which is now way out of date.

Well, at GenCon they're checking peoples' vaccination status and actually administering vax doses (I guess Indiana Health or some such?) and people are wearing vax bracelets showing their condition or status or whatever. A lot of the photos I've seen show that most folks are masking up, but still with over 35,000 people expected to attend, it must be a super-spreader event regardless.

I know what you mean about wishing masking was mandatory; heck, I wish people at the grocery store were masking up more regularly!

I had my fourth dose of the vaccine in May or so (iirc). I don't feel protected against the new strains, especially with my immuno-compromised condition.

I just can't go to a big event yet. I'd be so stressed that I wouldn't have fun.

People are determined to say that Covid is over or that we all just have to live with it and no one understands what that actually means. We know repeat infections are causing damage in us, we know long covid is a thing, we don't know what the permanent damage is going to turn out to be. Like have I taken years off my life already having been sick twice? is my heart damaged? I know my lungs are damaged now... It's like people think they'll just get sick and get better and refuse to hear that even if you don't see it now you're getting permanent damage each time you're sick that could mean you'll have a real bad time a decade from now.

I just got my 4th shot and I also don't feel protected. I figured it was better than not having it and hopefully when I get sick again (as I'm sure I will) I at least will escape some of the worse side effects.
