Sunday Afternoon Game Report - Capharnaüm, Session 1

Feb 11, 2019 13:21

Yesterday afternoon, the Sunday gaming group started their campaign of the Capharnaüm - The Tales of the Dragon-Marked roleplaying game campaign in the world of the Arabian Nights, Argonauts and Adventure.

Given the different way than usual that the players created their characters for the game (Tammy in a solo session, and SteveR over the phone with me), I thought I'd give you an idea of what they've created...

*****
SteveR - Steve decided he wanted to play a Shiradi sage and sorcerer (sephir), but didn't eally come up with a background idea for the character to start with, and this showed later (as the readers here will see). He called the character Daniel Bar Yeremiah.

Tammy - Tammy had no idea what she wanted to play for her character in the game, not really being familiar with the Arabian Nights stories and Middle Eastern cultures at all, but after we went through the basic types of characters (that is, the Bloods and the Paths available), she decided that she was going to play the Shiradi Debora Bat Solomon, a Red Lion of Shirad, with an interesting dichotomy to her life because of her desire to live by the Laws of Shirad but being an elite fighter type for the culture and its religious beliefs. Interesting character.

In terms of this first session of the game, I don't need to put the write-up behind a cut, since it's not that long.

CHARACTERS:
Daniel Bar Jeremiah (SteveR) - Shiradi Sage and Sorcerer
Debora Bat Solomon (Tammy) - Shiradi Red Lion
Faqid the Witless (GM/NPC) - Amnesiac Merchant Prince

9-Primus-4-5997
(9th day of the first Ten-day of the 4th Month of the year 5997)

The players begin with an introduction to the world of the Capharnaüm - The Tales of the Dragon-Marked Roleplaying Game, learn some of the basic mechanics of the game, proceed through the Capharnaüm world Glossary (Capharnaüm RPG pp. 266-368), and partake in several samples of combat that teach them the basic mechanics of the Arabian Nights inspired game. And just how deadly the combat system can be…

This first session, or more likely a Session 0, as it didn't really get into play of the game, went pretty much as expected, but I didn't get a chance to go over how magic works with SteveR too much as the basic game mechanics and a couple of sample combats took a bit longer than I expected after answering some of the players' questions about the game world. That, and the fact that I had to go over the rules from scratch, as we hadn't played the system since just before Christmas (December 23rd or so). I thought things went pretty well, and that the game session accomplished most of what I had set out to do with the game.

In any event, I'm looking forward to running the next session of the Capharnaüm - The Tales of the Dragon-Marked RPG campaign with the Sunday group, as I should be able to start the actual game since going over the magic system with SteveR shouldn't take too long (I hope).
