Sunday Afternoon Game Report - Chill 3rd Edition Character Creation

Aug 31, 2015 21:02

Yesterday afternoon, the Sunday gaming group met up and created their player characters for the Chill 3rd Edition RPG. Since Dan told me in e-mail on Saturday morning that he was dropping out of the gaming group, Sunday is back down to two (2) players. (If anyone's looking to get into a gaming group on Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, please drop me a line in e-mail or here in PM for more.)

Once Tammy and spross arrived at my place for the afternoon, a little before 1:00 pm, we chatted for a bit and then got down to business. I started off going through the basics of the world of Chill 3rd Edition, answered questions from the players about matters, and then got into the players' likes and dislikes about the horror genre, and things they wanted to see and didn't want to see in the game. As mentioned in previous posts, character generation in Chill 3rd Edition is really quite simple, once you get past the basics of the game. The fact of the matter is that I had never run the earlier versions of Chill (Pacesetter or Mayfair Games) with the players, so neither of them have experience of the game.

In any event, the afternoon was interesting, to say the least, with the players seeming to enjoy themselves and have a decent time of it with character creation. The player characters for the game, called Envoys, are an interesting mix in some ways, though we'll see what happens when play gets underway.

spross - SteveR tends to hem and haw about the characters that he creates, but he didn't hesitate here. After originally creating a nameless second-hand bookstore owner who was possessed by a vengeful spirit at one time before joining SAVE, he switched characters and created Peter Granger, a landscape artist who had encountered a Spectral Hound.

Tammy - She decided to slightly remodel one of the characters she'd taken in the playtest of the game system character creation and is playing Aislinn (pronounced "Ash-linn") Drohan, an auction house providence authenticator. Her first encounter with the Unknown was when she used the Sensory discipline of Postcognition on an evil artefact.

In addition to their own player envoys, Tammy and spross had me create a police detective as an NPC that could be used in the game as well. While I did so, when spross changed his character, I created a new NPC for the players from scratch. Brian Hartigan is a courier driver who encountered a Rakshasa. Overall, I thought the game session on Sunday went rather well, and that the players came up with player characters that are relatively interesting (though that remains to be seen with SteveR's character), but they are a bit like one-trick ponies.

All in all, it was a good afternoon of character creation. I'm looking forward to starting the Chill 3rd Edition game next Sunday afternoon.

Note: This entry has been edited on September 8th, to reflect the player characters and NPC's names, as well as the changes made by SteveR to his character and the new NPC that was introduced.
