Wednesday Night Game Report - Primeval RPG Session 5

Apr 23, 2015 18:27

Last night, the Wednesday night players continued their campaign of the Primeval RPG last night. Here's the game session notes for last night's play. You can read about the previous session of the game in this journal entry. This post is somewhat long, and I've put it behind a cut so that folks who don't want to read any detailed rpg posts don't have to.

CHARACTERS:

Dr. Paula Richardson (Donna Winston) - Palaeontologist
Sgt. Charles Kinson (David Winston) - Former Soldier
Joanne ("Jonie") Williams (Kendall Scott) - Reporter

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Using the utmost caution and stealth, Joanne Williams, James White, Leslie Fierson, and Morris Carter make their escape into the woods, and away from the 4-metre long dinosaur. Carter doesn't make it easy for them, as he's gibbering again somewhat, and rather scared. As they work their way through the forest, Leslie admits to Joanne and James that they're lost. The group emerge into a small clearing, and stumble on a small group of herbivore dinosaurs munching away on some lovely, purple ferns. A small cloud of spores permeates the air in the area...

Back at the flickering light source, Sgt. Charles Kinson and Dr. Paula Richardson leap out of the way of the charging creatures, three of the herbivores that they recognise. Paula discovers that she's twisted her ankle through no fault of her own, and Charles helps her to seek shelter at some of the nearby trees. As they observe the hadrosaurs, the two note that the creatures have gone and started to browse on some of the purple ferns. A small cloud of pollen is rising into the air near the creatures. Paula asks Charles if he has any idea what might be going on, and Charles is evasive with her.

Joanne tells James and Leslie that she wants to get closer to the herbivores to take a couple of photos, and before Leslie can warn her, she moves cautiously and gets closer to the creatures, entering the cloud of spores floating in the area. Inhaling the spores, Joanne suddenly sees her rival, Harriet Weeks, and several of the large carnivore dinosaurs coming after her. With a shout of "I've got to get out of here!", Joanne goes charging off into the forest. James and Leslie are aghast, but they decide they can't let the reporter go off on her own, and go after her, much to Morris Carter's disapproval; reluctantly, he goes after them as well.

Paula wants to take a closer look at the light phenomenon, but Charles warns her off it, and then decides to tell her some of what he knows. He tells her that the light phenomenon is what his "people" call Shards, and they're portals to other times in Earth's history. Paula is incredulous and wants to know more, but he tells her that he'll tell her everything later, but that for now they need to contain the dinosaurs until his people get there. Both of them attempt to use their mobile phones, but neither can get a signal through the odd static; Charles says he should have anticipated that, but doesn't tell her what he means. The two of them start to back away, and move off through the forest, heading back the way they came.

James and Leslie cautiously make their way after the terrified Joanne, who keeps running in her harrowing, frightened blind journey until she starts panicking and then slowing down, out of breath. She collapses, moaning and quivering, at the base of a tree. James and Leslie find her, and the almost recovered Joanne explains what happened to her. Leslie says it sounds like she was having bad hallucinations, and James twigs onto the idea that it had something to do with the spores. Joanne remembers what Morris Carter told them about his fellow scientist, and he confirms that, and the three characters suspect that he was exposed to the same spores as well. The four discuss what they should do next, but Leslie explains that they're pretty much lost. Joanne sees what appears to be a yellowish, pulsating light source in the distance, and points it out to the others. They start off in that direction.

As they travel, Paula and Charles discuss what they should do about the Shard, but Paula is more concerned about the dinosaurs themselves. Charles says that it's well in hand, but she tells him that it can't be - the creatures don't belong in the modern day, and the temporal ramifications could be huge. Hearing snapping twigs, Charles tells her to be quiet, but Paula tells him that she hears human voices. The two move in the direction of the sound, and come upon Joanne, Paula's two assistants, and Morris Carter.

The player characters are overjoyed to have found each other, though Paula is puzzled by what Leslie and James are doing in the forest, but after Leslie explains what has happened, Paula says that she thinks she has an idea of how they might be able to prevent Charles's people from making a terrible mistake. When he asks what she means, she says that they're going to return the creatures back through the Shard to their right time in the past. Paula says it all depends on their being able to get a large load of the purple ferns and a means of transporting them to the Shard. Morris says that he and his fellow team member had collected a large number of the ferns, and have a large truck that's currently holding them. Paula says that's perfect, and then she explains her plans and what she believes is going on in the woods...

Last night's game session of the Primeval RPG was pretty good, and had a lot of good stuff going on. Most of the game session consisted of the players roleplaying, with only a couple of moments of possible physical conflict, but the players told me that it was a relief after the sheer amount of dealing with dinosaurs that occurred in the previous game session. The session saw a couple of revelations, and a bit of character distrust set in, something that I hope will be explored a bit more in the next game session, but that remains to be seen.

Overall, a fun time was had last night, and the gamers told me they're looking forward to next week's game session of Primeval. So am I. :)
