Call for Artists

Jun 08, 2011 12:49

One of my comrades-in-arms at Circlet Press is running a mainstream fantasy serial, and she needs volunteer artists to illustrate! Note, VOLUNTEER: we are none of us getting paid for this project--it is all for love (and exposure). If you use the comments to bitch about working for free, I will delete and block you. Seriously. But also seriously, I am all about the exposure for up-and-comers. The internet is a big, dense, scary place, and I want talent to be seen. Being an editor, for me, means being a professional fangirl. I am Jen's fangirl, and I want to be yours as well. :-P

Also, yes, her name is Jen too. I'm not sockpuppeting. I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME. ;-)

Hello artists,

I'm getting ready to launch a new web serial novel (high fantasy--think swords and sorcery, with a female heroine) and am hoping to include one or two sketch drawings (sketches only, not finished artwork) with each chapter. Would any of you be interested in having your artwork featured online with my story? You will get full credit for the art (I'll list your name and link to your website) but I can't pay you anything.

Basically, my idea is that each artist will agree to do a certain number of chapters (to be determined, but probably only a handful of chapters). I'll send the chapters ahead of time, and the artist will send me back the sketches that go along with each chapter. (The idea with the sketches is that it'll not only take you less time to draw, but it also will allow the reader to imagine things a bit more without an artist imposing one particular vision on them.) It's important that you'll be willing and able to return the sketches to me in a timely manner, but we can discuss specific timelines individually.

Then when I post the chapters, each one will include the relevant artwork, and you and I can link to each other at that point (this will generate traffic on both ends, which is great for both of us!). I plan to have a page devoted solely to the artists, so your name would be on my site the entire time the book is running, even when your chapters are no longer the featured ones (it will probably take me at least a couple of years to write and post the whole book, at which point I hope to have attracted a ton of readers). This will mean that, on your end, you can have a permanent link that says "Look at my artwork that has been featured at ___!" :-D

If you're interested or have any questions for me, please email me at thewizardsprophecy@gmail.com. Please include a few example drawings for me to see, to make sure your style of artwork will work well with my novel, and I'll contact you if I'm interested. I'm only looking for serious, budding artists here, who are willing to work to a deadline and produce quality work. I hope to hear from you!

Thanks!

Jennifer
