Grumble, grumble.

A friend of mine just made me feel like a freak. She's having complications with her pregnancy that have made her determine this is probably the only child she will ever attempt to have (but both she and the baby are now doing really well). I asked her if she thought the complications she's having would probably mean she'd need a C-section. She ( Read more... )

Having never had a child, I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment, but FWIW she sounds like a moron.

Hee...Yeah, she's a good person, but it's not the first boneheaded comment she's ever made.

What an... urm, ass? I hesitate to say so if she is a friend, but good god! Like you said, 9 months (10 really) and 14 hours of labor earns you the right to say you REALLY gave birth in a C-section! ::Hates on stupid people::

I too have been watching the Olympics. Bren is determined to make me like and understand curling. heee!

She's a friend, but yeah, what an ass! I don't think she even realized how that came across. I mean, hello? Talking to a woman who had a C-section here!

If Bren helps you to like curling, please fill me in. I do not get curling at ALL.

So far I have not gotten curling fever -- and in fact find it bizarre and pointless. I'm so glad to finally have found someone who agrees with me! :P

A "real" experience, eh? Pity you can't use virtual reality introduce her to the 14 hours of your "fake" experience and see if she still says the same thing. Jaysis. Honestly, any part of the whole experience strikes me as PLENTY damn real.

Actually, on second thought, I bet if you gave us her address, we could all go and do a pretty good rendition of your "fake" experience...while we kick her ass. Just let us know.

"Those people--especially those Republican-types, worry about what I mean to the sport"

OK, I know nothing about this guy whatsoever, but I'm guessing this is an orientation issue? God, I'm so sick of people making every damn thing into an issue. (And I just looked him up and he's from Coatesville, PA? Damn. That's not far from where I grew up, which is nowhere I'd think a champion skater would come from. Who knew??)

What's sad is that she's not the only one who thinks like this. I've heard it from plenty of people. I should just ignore it, but from a friend it pissed me off plenty.

Hee...I love the idea of sending my posse out to kick her ass. But it would only take one of you, trust me. *g*

This was the first I'd ever heard of him, but that's my guess too. Like he'd be the first male figure skater with that particular orientation. ::snort:: He skates really well, who gives a damn about anything else?

Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! ;)

Well, yeah. That's why I sorta scratched my head at the comment you posted, 'cause...come on. Surely this is not news to anyone??

He may be the first "I'm here/I'm queer"-type male figure skater to just take on his critics. I mean, I remember Brian Boitano lisping a bit, but he didn't put on Chanel sunglasses and an ascot for his soft-focus profiles. Heh. (Note: I have no clue about his actual sexual orientation, though he reminds me A LOT of a gay teenager I knew in high school who got sick of the snide remarks and went ALL OUT GAY, ya know?) Weir comes across as immature and at least pretending to be, like OMG, SO TOTALLY SECURE that it makes me think he's purposefully taking the image of a gay figure skater and pushing it as far as he can. Think Madonna in her Like a Virgin years ( ... )

It sounds like you and I had really similar birth experiences, Mr. E was delivered C-section after 13 hours of labor at 9lbs 6oz and 21 inches long. If that's not a REAL experience I don't know what is. If something is putting her baby at risk and her doctors determine she needs a c-section she's going to find out right away how REAL that situation is. Pushing a baby all the way down the birth canal and out is an awesome feat, but so is having a surgical team practially stand on top of you to push and pull a baby out a six inch incision!!!!!! Damn, it's not like they just unzip your abdomen and the baby is lifted out! Cripes. You want that Zandra, AZ_K and I should come and tell her a few things (between us we've delivered 6, going on 8 babies c-section)?

We had eerily similar experiences, from the sound of it. And it was real enough for me, believe me. It ended up being absolutely necessary, and my doctor said even without the other complications I had, it would have been necessary because of her size and her position in my body. So, you know, forgive me if I'm okay with surgery, versus putting my baby at further risk.

It's just ignorance is what it is. It shouldn't have hurt my feelings, but it did.

LMAO. I should have said that! I let her know in no uncertain terms how okay I was with it, and how good I felt about it, but that line would have been perfect. :)
