Okay, so, I think canon implies that Declan and Nikola have never met before End of Nights, so the way I see this having gone down is, James is off on some kind of mission exploring isolated ruins full of elaborate traps and ancient inscriptions and things that are catnip to him, only it all goes terribly wrong. Somehow (whee, I don't have to figure this part out) he manages to send a message that's picked up by Nikola (possibly the suit has a built-in emergency transmitter of some kind, la la plot device), but Nikola isn't actually close enough to do anything about it before James dies of dramatic plot device

Before he dies of dramatic plot device! Hee, that's half of why I like this game, because you can *handwave* your way through it.

I seriously love the idea of Nikola calling and calling. And calling. While poor Declan is just trying to mount a rescue mission! That's lovely.

I love the framing of this story so much! Tesla snarking at people is basically my favorite thing ever, and the contrast of the phone calls and ridiculous feats of physical prowess is fantastic! I really wish I could watch this episode.
