Word (from Eliza Dushku, I believe) is that it's only roundabout episode 6 or 7 that Fox stopped interfering a bunch and the show finds its legs. Word from Joss (which made me a lot more comfortable with some of the issues of agency and abuse in the show) is that you have to show how bad something is (i.e., how Echo isn't in control, and is used, and doesn't have any power) so the audience can know what they're fighting against.

So I'm giving it a few more episodes, at least, to see if it finds its rhythm.

Don't contemplate the sheer unlikelihood of being alive. Contemplate a venti soy misto and a giant plate of cookies. You deserve cookies not strange turtle metaphors. I send hugs. Also cookies.

I decided after the first episode that I didn't care who was messing with it or what the real point was--it upset me too much and I didn't find any character interesting enough to make me wait out the Big Reveal.
