Using power, using power, using power!

I had this spectacular dream that was like living in a musical (or a music video.) I was walking along down a random city street and I got a Twitter update from Pete that said, "Look up, sunshine's everywhere." And when I looked up, Panic at the Disco was doing some silly choreographed dance in the crosswalk. And then Gabe came running in and he ( Read more... )

I read a preview for Dollhouse somewhere in the last week and felt both dubious and curious. It must be pretty terrible if Eliza Dushku can't hold your attention long enough to finish the episode. She apparently went to Weadon looking for a show, and this is all he came up with. So strange and sad. There are so many fabulous shows things he could have come up with for her, though I have to admit that in my own brain these shows all involve her wearing Xena garb.

I love your point about Echo, and I feel the same way. I wasn't invested in her at all, and I felt more interested in Penn, who of course was real only for the time she was needed and then erased. It wasn't real to Echo that any of that stuff happened, the emotional challenge and resolution, so she didn't grow or go through anything, and I didn't really care about her by the end of the episode.

Yea, I am disappointed in Dollhouse too. It's Joss, so I keep waiting for there to be some *reason* why there's so much creepiness (and not in the good way), but I've not seen it yet, and I'm not sure I can watch long enough to get there. I'm sure there's something more interesting & less (or at least differently) problematic in his brain because he's not just a creepy guy who enjoys sexualizing terrified women and vapid, vacant women, but I'm not convinced it's going to make it to the screen, whether because FOX is interfering or not.

There is actually a lot of depth in the show and a whole lot of potential. Right now it's not easy to see, even if you've only watched the pilot. But, go to the website and watch the next the eps... it's not much better but the potential is there and it's getting more an more intriguing just from the fact that you don't know anything.

Joss and Eliza had said eps 1-6 are ground work and a bit run of the mill introducing characters. Joss only wrote one episode of the 4 so far and was primarily writer in the ones after 6.

Ep 3 was the one that really got me on the edge of my seat. Not because it was fantastic... but because the possibilities suddenly became unlimited.
