If this sounds like the story of a life, okay.

I still can't get over how much Raymond Carver's poem Locking Yourself Out, Then Trying to Get Back In is about Sirius. Right in the middle of GoF, just before his reunion with Remus and the "Lie low at Lupin's" era. It makes me want to write a Sirius story, about him seeing his old life, seeing all the pain he caused, and still, wanting it back. ( Read more... )

whatever remains however improbable, pairings of doom

Ooooh. *sniff* That's perfect. Especially that last bit. And the beginning, too, is like him not trusting Remus all those years ago and shutting him out and that led to all sorts of horrible things that he can't fix and yeah.

You should totally write that.

Yeah, the image of just shutting the door behind you and not realizing what you've done- I do have to write this.

I really do want to write it. The idea has been floating around in my brain since phineasjones sent me toward the poem way back in the day when I was fighting with the Bring Back Black story. And although it reminded me then of Sirius coming back through the veil - now, it strikes me as being much more about him returning to the old life he lost.

It's just - it's him, looking at his old life. Looking in through the windows at what he used to have, and remembering and suffering for the pain he caused - and yet wanting that life back so much.

no, it's brilliant. completely. even the general similarities between ray carver and sirius are startling. it's just... man. that poem means so much to me personally and so does sirius... i would be almost afraid to read that fic.

but i would, of course, don't get me wrong.
