Change in Calufrax schedule

If you like reading Doctor Who fanfic, if you're always looking for interesting recs, if you just want to offer some vainglorious gesture of resistance to the way Livejournal seems to be slowly but surely staggering to its end, and that there's nothing really anything quite the same to replace it, then heed this message from nonelvis"Originally posted by ( Read more... )

Thanks for re-posting my message. I really didn't want to have to take this step with the comm, but I don't think I had much of a choice if I wanted to keep it going.

Yes, better to spread it out like this than to have big gaps, I would say, because I know how these things go; big gaps get bigger...and bigger...and permanent. So yes. And who knows, as unlikely as it may seem, it might pick up again. There are still lots of people active on LJ, even if not as many as there seemed to be in the past. Well, call me a naïve optimist, but I'm going to keep telling myself that. :)

Sad. But then I agree it does seem to be the end for LJ. This last week in particular my f-list has been a ghost town. Sometimes even including comm posts, I only see maybe 5 or 6 entries a day. Shame.

I think it's going to be a very long, drawn-out end, though. I still seem to get quite a lot of traffic on my own flist, but then I do have a lot of comms on there and I know that lots of people have noticed a drop-off in activity, and indeed there seem to be a lot of once-active comms about that are now virtually deserted. Certainly there are far less personal blogging-type posts going up than there used to be, and I include myself in that, for a variety of reasons.

But as the guy said, "do not go gentle into that good night..." etc etc

I wonder where everybody went. I know I've lost a lot of friends to facebook over the years, but facebook is pretty quiet too once you cut out the noise.

...two years and some odd since the first tentative announcement that it'd go biweekly if. That's not a bad extended run. ;S

(Sadly, I cannot volunteer again. I've pretty much totally fallen out of reading fanfic. :P)

ETA: I did wonder how much of this was due to LJ's slow demise and how much to Teaspoon's hypothetical slow demise / just plain running out of stories after 5 years 5 months, but only 5.81% of Teaspoon stories have been recced on Calufrax. So. *shrugs* I refuse to speculate on how many of the other 94% are actually reccable; certainly some of them are unrelated-drabble collections or abandoned WIPs.

Sturgeon's Law suggests that 4.19% of the remaining stories should be of reccable quality :-)

And, of course, my vanity as a writer isn't going to let me accept that the reccers could possibly have run out of stories until every last work of mine has had a glowing write-up, not excepting the collections of unrelated drabbles...

Well, I've signed up to rec.

It's pretty grim, coming back to the land of internet to find all of the fields and houses deserted. Is everyone on Dreamwidth now? And if not... where are they?

I'm hoping that this absence of activity is more a reflection on the communications platform than on the fandom itself, because with the 50th Anniversary coming up, there should be a lot more noise than the crickets are making...

I think I just might sign up to rec, when i have the time. Would be a shame to see it go.
