So, the back side of our house (kitchen and bedroom) are impossible to cool once they get warm. They are south facing, the south-facing window is all glass and they are very well insulated. If I use the oven forget it - it becomes positively infernal.

The front side, specifically the library, is also very glass-walled. It is north-facing. If we didn't need to use the kitchen we could turn off the AC and just sit in there all day, it stays that cool. Between its northern orientation and the privacy shrubberies, the room stays light enough that we don't need artificial light except on the stormiest of days and cool enough that AC is unnecessary.

Unfortunately, my entire townhouse is south facing. We don't spend much on heat in the winter, but it makes AC almost mandatory. My other issue is that I have difficulty sleeping and get nightmares if I'm too hot.
